A gentle paddle safari by kayak or SUP (stand-up paddleboard) that weaves through an untouched mangrove lagoon on Beef Island, Tortola, British Virgin Islands. If you're looking for a short excursion in the BVI, this small-group local-guided tour is perfect. There's an abundance of wild nature in these mangrove forests, also known as 'the nurseries of the sea', which are home to juvenile marine life of all kinds including turtles, stingrays, baby sharks and barracuda. This is a wonderful way to enjoy the pristine BVI ecosystem, see raw nature up close and learn all about the sea, the land and the culture around you.

Paddling either a kayak with one other person or a paddlebard if you have real experience of usingt them. We'll go along the reef and into the lagoon at the downwind end, then make our way back upwind sheltered by the mangrove trees. In the lagoon we will explore different quiet corners, watch passing wildlife, and enjoy the remarkable universe that is a mangrove lagoon. If the season is right, you might also be asked to plant a mangrove seed to help our recovery following the devastation caused by Hurricane Irma in 2017.

I recently went on this kayaking trip through the mangrove forest, and it was absolutely amazing. The entire experience felt peaceful and immersive, with stunning scenery everywhere you looked. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, sharing fascinating information about the mangrove ecosystem, local wildlife, and the importance of preserving these unique environments. We had a brilliant time kayaking through the mangroves. We saw fish, jellyfish, beautiful white egret and a sting ray. At the end we tried our best to plant some baby mangroves. Alex has so much general knowledge of the island as well as the flora and fauna. He picked up on time from our cruise terminal and was super friendly throughout. Would highly recommend.

Loved this experience. We could tell right from the moment Alex replied in person to our booking that this eco tour is the real deal. Alex was on time to collect us, warm and friendly, kind and considerate, and so incredibly knowledgeable about the mangrove forest and all its creatures. Who wouldn't enjoy a gentle paddle across a sparkling sea lagoon, but it's so more than that. We even helped by "planting" mangrove propageals in the hurricane damaged areas. Thoroughly recommend this tour. Long may you continue your work Alex! Thank you.

Our tour with Alex was one of the highlights of our trip to Tortola. He is incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about the mangroves and marine life that make this area so special. You can tell he’s lived here all his life and genuinely loves sharing that knowledge with others. When we accidentally tipped our kayak and lost a pair of sunglasses, Alex went above and beyond by going back later to find them and is even helping us arrange shipping. That kind of care and dedication is rare. We’re so thankful for the experience and highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Tortola.

Alex is a fantastic tour guide. He is so knowledgeable about the area and its history and ecology. He kept things engaging throughout. Alex went so far as to backtrack and help me find my phone and ID that I had left near the beach after the excursion and was super patient throughout. Definitely recommended!

We had a great time paddling through the mangrove forest. One of the individuals in our party had trouble using a kayak due to mobility issues (legs unable to bend enough to use a kayak) and had to be taken to a small island to wait for us to return. The guide was so helpful and patient as different options were discussed and accommodations attempted. Please be sure that you will be able to use a kayak before booking.
