This walking audio tour is an incredibly engaging and enjoyable way to explore Maungauika / North Head and really understand its layered history. You can completely put your devices away and listen to David as he takes you from the Tainui Landing Memorial Marae, around the reserve, and explains Māori pā and legends. Walking through the tunnels and past the massive gun emplacements, with panoramic harbour views opening up at the summit, makes the history come alive. The tour is well-paced and entertaining, and balances the area's natural beauty with fascinating military and cultural context. Even as someone who had lived local, I came away having learned things I never previously appreciated.
