Mardi Himal Trek is an easy yet adventurous trekking trail in the Annapurna region of Nepal. This trek takes you to the east of Annapurna range and Mt. Machhapuchhre (6997m). This trek is fairly popular because it takes a short time and you can experience the Gurung culture as well. Likewise, the trek offers amazing views of the mountains in Annapurna and Lamjung Himal ranges.
The trip starts with a drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara. The next day, you drive to Phedi and then start your trek to Pothana. Further, you trek to forest camp at Kokar via Deurali. You can relish the views of the Machhapuchhre (6997m) and Mardi Himal (5553m) on the trek. Then, you head to Low camp and trek further north towards the High Camp. Finally, you trek to the Mardi Himal Base Camp on the next day. Here, you can enjoy the views of Annapurna South (7219m), Machhapuchhre (6997m), and Annapurna I (8091m). Furthermore, you descend to Siding village and enjoy the Gurung culture and lifestyle.

Your arrival in Kathmandu will be marked by landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). A company representative of Himalayan Adventure Treks & Tours will receive you and transfer you to your hotel. Evening you can meet the participants and the trek members. Today marks the start of your journey from Kathmandu to Pokhara, a picturesque city nestled amidst the Himalayas. The scenic drive spans approximately 6-7 hours, covering around 200 kilometers of breathtaking landscapes. As you traverse from Kathmandu to Pokhara, the route unfolds with panoramic vistas of verdant countryside, terraced fields, and quaint villages. Along the way, you'll encounter charming towns, offering delightful opportunities to pause, stretch your legs, and immerse yourself in the local culture. Pokhara, renowned for its natural splendor, beckons with its majestic Himalayan peaks, serene lakes, and verdant surroundings. This enchanting city boasts a myriad of outdoor adventures, from trekking and rafting to paragliding and more. Upon arrival in Pokhara, you'll check into your hotel, where you can unwind and rejuvenate. The evening invites exploration of Pokhara's cultural gems, including temples, palaces, and bustling markets.

Annapurna Region
To start your journey, you'll drive from Pokhara (altitude 2,690 feet or 822 meters) to Kande, located at an altitude of approximately 5,740 feet (1,750 meters). This drive usually takes around 1.5 hours, offering beautiful views of the surrounding hills and glimpses of the Annapurna range. From Kande, your trek to Pitam Deurali begins, which is around 3.5 miles (5.6 kilometers) and takes 3-4 hours of moderate hiking. The trail ascends gradually, leading you through dense forests and occasional clearings that open up to breathtaking mountain vistas. As you climb, the elevation increases to around 6,890 feet (2,100 meters) by the time you reach Pitam Deurali. This scenic trek offers a great introduction to the Annapurna region, blending rich biodiversity with views of peaks like Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). Remember to hydrate, as the altitude gain is noticeable, and enjoy the captivating panoramas, which are a highlight of this section of the Annapurna trail.

Starting from Pitam Deurali at an altitude of approximately 6,890 feet (2,100 meters), you’ll embark on a scenic trek to Forest Camp, which sits at around 8,202 feet (2,500 meters). This trek covers about 4 miles (6.4 kilometers) and usually takes 5-6 hours, as the trail steadily ascends through lush rhododendron and oak forests, typical of the Annapurna region. The path is quiet and remote, offering trekkers a chance to immerse themselves in nature and experience the rich biodiversity. As you make your way, you’ll encounter diverse flora and fauna, and occasional clearings provide breathtaking glimpses of peaks like Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and Annapurna South. The trail can be steep and narrow in parts, demanding a moderate level of endurance and careful footing. Forest Camp, locally known as "Kokar," is a peaceful spot with basic lodges, providing a cozy resting point amid dense woodlands.

Annapurna Mountain Range
From Kokar Forest Camp, sitting at an elevation of 8,202 feet (2,500 meters), the trek to High Camp takes you to an altitude of around 11,800 feet (3,600 meters). This leg of the journey covers approximately 4.5 miles (7.2 kilometers) and takes 5-6 hours, with the trail becoming steeper and more challenging as you climb higher into the alpine zone. You’ll move through dense forests of rhododendron and oak initially, which eventually thin out into more rugged landscapes with dwarf bamboo and juniper as you gain altitude. Along the way, occasional clearings offer awe-inspiring views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Mardi Himal, and the Annapurna South, rewarding you with breathtaking panoramas that grow more dramatic with every step. The higher altitude and thinning air make this part of the trek more strenuous, so it’s important to pace yourself and stay hydrated to adjust to the elevation.
Excursion to Mardi Himal Base Camp (MHBC) (4550m) and return to Badal Danda. 6-7 hours. (B/L/D)

The trek from High Camp (11,800 feet or 3,600 meters) to Mardi Himal Base Camp (MHBC), at an altitude of 14,600 feet (4,450 meters), is a challenging yet exhilarating journey. This excursion covers about 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) one way and typically takes 3-4 hours to reach the base camp. The trail ascends steeply over rugged terrain, transitioning from grassy alpine meadows to rocky paths that lead you close to the snowline, with sweeping views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and the striking Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) just in front.

Starting from Badal Danda, located at an altitude of around 10,500 feet (3,200 meters), the trek down to Siding village (5,250 feet or 1,600 meters) involves a descent of about 4,920 feet (1,500 meters). This trek takes approximately 4-5 hours and covers around 4.3 miles (7 kilometers). The trail is mostly downhill and leads you through lush forests, terraced farmlands, and charming traditional villages, offering a scenic end to your journey in the Annapurna region.

5.00Between November 1 and 11, 2024, my partner and I had the pleasure of performing the Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek (11 days) with Himalayan Adventure Treks & Tours. From the outset, Bhagwat was extremely responsive, responding quickly to our inquiries and adapting to our requests with customized alternatives. The Mardi Himal is known as a "Baby Trek" by locals, and rightly so. It is a simple route, with short stages, suitable for people of all ages and levels of physical preparation. This makes it a perfect choice for those looking for a relaxed trip, enjoying the views and amenities of the tea-lodges, without compromising the charm of the mountain. On site, our experience was flawless, largely thanks to Bharat, our guide. It not only provided us with professional and successful accompaniment at every stage of the tour, but also enriched our journey by sharing aspects of local culture through gastronomy, music and dancing. As in any travel experience, we had two minor setbacks: one with the Arts Hotel in Kathmandu and one with the one-way bus to Pokhara. However, Bhagwat resolved them quickly, offering us efficient solutions, such as changing hotels and ensuring comfortable return transport. One small detail is that the official Trek (and therefore the one followed by all the guides) does not reach the Camp Base (4500msnm), but to the Viewpoint (4200msnm), and that is where the photos are. In short, if you are looking for a first approach to the majestic Himalayas with spectacular views, without needing much physical effort or preparation, the Mardi Himal is an excellent choice. And with Himalayan Adventure Treks & Tours, the experience becomes even more special thanks to its impeccable organization and the human quality of its equipment. Highly recommended!

5.00After ACT, we turned to trek the Mardi Himal. This treking was easier and more relaxing. Especially the landscape were totally different. Mardi Himal was many trees and flowers in the mountains. Now it was on the season of rhododendron, and it was amazing. When we walked into the forest, which felt comfortable. Also, we went up to watch the sunrise on the high viewpoint that was amazing. Although our guide Birendra was busy, he arranged another guide to take care of us that we felt better.

5.00Really good trip. Well-organised and we were well taken care of. The trek is not too hard and the guide and porters were very helpful. We also took a city tour in Kathmandu with Mr. Kapil. He was very knowledgeable about the sites and the city. He did a great job as a guide for the day. Highly recommended!

5.00You can’t go wrong with Himalayan Adventures because it is made up of good people and well organized/run. Prakash was our Mardi Himal trek guide, and you couldn’t ask for a better guide. Prakash is a highly skilled guide who was funny, caring, motivating, and a patient guide dealing with my frequent questioning of “how much longer.” Our porters consisted of Manoj, Dikpal, Santos 1, and Santos 2. They were a kind, friendly, attentive group always there for us. The owner, Bhagwat, was always responsive and available to answer our questions. I was not physically prepared for this last minute trek so thank you for the kindness and encouragement helping me get past the day 1 climb that almost broke me.

5.007/4/2023 I joined with group to Mardi Himal Trek by Himalayan Adventure。I apprecite to company with 7 very friedly and kind people to trek, and of course, lucky we had a very humble, polite, very conscientious and helpful guide Prakashadh (WeChat)with us . also ,there are those very hard-working porters, especially Monas, who also take care of us all the way. These make our whole traveling safe 、excellent and lots of fun. Thank you so much for everyone !

5.00Prakash (trek guide) led our group of 8 with patience, care, competence, and humor. It was the first time our family had done such an adventurous trip, and we had various anxieties and were not all necessarily in the best physical shape for it haha. But he calmly reassured us we would all make it (and we did!) and to go at our own pace. I caught a stomach bug on the 2nd day (my worst fear while traveling), but he was prepared with medications and amazingly, I was able to carry on. To watch the sunrise on top of a mountain in the Himalaya's was magic and made it all worth it. Our porters (Manoj, Dikpal, Santos 1, and Santos 2) were also great, and they were all flexible to meet everyone's needs within the group (e.g. by guiding those in the group who wanted to hike faster, while Prakash stayed back with the slower paced group). Thank you for taking care of us!

5.00What an incredible experience! We did the 7 day Mardi Himal Trek. The owner, Bhagwat, was a pleasure to plan this trip with. He made sure we were taken care of before and after the trek, making our 1st experience to Nepal a fantastic one!. Our guide, Prakash, and porter Monoj were wonderful to trek with. Prakash made us feel well-informed about what to expect everyday, how to dress, and mades sure we were well hydrated and took rest breaks. He knew every portion of the Mardi Himal trek and we felt very fortunate to have someone who is so passionate about the outdoors guiding us. He was so fun to trek with too with his great sense of humor. Our porter, Monoj, was super helpful and great to trek with as well! He was always kind, fun, and had our bags ready for us in our rooms at every stop along the way. I would highly recommend any tour with Himalayan Adventure Treks and Tours! 5.00We did a 7 day trekking, it was little strenuous for us initially but our guide Badri encouraged us and we finished the hike up to the View point. We couldn't appreciate enough the service provided by Himalayan Trekking and Tours. Mr. Bhagwat was extremely prompt in response and genuinely honest person. We certainly would recommend Himalayan Trekking and Tours for your next adventure in Nepal Rapheal and Mary Lakayil

5.00The team had been wonderful to plan and guide the trip to Mardi Himal! We were able to see the sunrise from the Viewpoint! And timing was perfect! The guide even packed applies for us expecting that we will be craving fruit during the course of the trek. Yummy! They were mindful of the details. A highly recommended outfitters!!
