The Masaya Volcano National Park covers an area of 54 km² and includes two volcanoes and five craters. The volcanoes have erupted several times in history and were feared by both the indigenous people and the Spanish conquerors. The Spanish baptized the active volcano “La Boca del Infierno” or “The Mouth of Hell”. They placed a cross, “La Cruz de Bobadilla” (named after Father Francisco Bobadilla), on the crater lip in the 16th century in order to exorcise the Devil.

Masaya Volcano National Park 2025
On this tour, you will meet one of Nicaragua’s most active volcanoes. At nightfall, you will reach the volcano summit by vehicle. Witness a unique natural event and see a lava lake flowing from the bottom of the crater, forming a river of magma that glows in the dark and illuminates the interior of the volcano. The spectacle begins when the sky is getting dark or is already dark, allowing you to see thousands of stars. The wind flows free. You hear a sound like the rumbling of the sea. And, from the edge of the crater, right to the bottom of it, you will see an amazing lava lake that moves with its incandescent color. The visit to the crater lasts between 10 and 20 minutes (depending on the total number of visitors at the entrance). Every day, since sunset, the visit of Masaya Volcano Night Tour starts at 4:00 PM. if there are people or groups before you, you will need to stand in line, as visitors are allowed to enter and go to the crater in order of arrival.

5.00From the very beginning to end: 10/10 + brownie points to boot!! We booked a few activities with Next Adventure Nicaragua: 1. the Night Tour at Masaya: really cool to see the glow of lava!! And seeing steam coming from small hot pockets along our trail; it was interesting to witness, coming from the Arctic. 2. Chocolate Tour: leaning about the preparation of chocolate to making your own little chocolate bar was fun, and so was our host. 3. Zip lining on Mombacho Volcano, the guys were great with clear instructions, felt super safe and free, good for everyone!! You walk downhill yo the first platforms, then zipline further down the hill. Once you’ve completed the 5 ziplines, it’s another 5 minute walk downhill where a bus picks you up and drops you back where you started. So it’s good for anyone to take part in. We had a great time!! Booking with Next Adventure Nicaragua was one of the best choices we made. Moses was helpful in making suggestions and helping to get us organized with what activities we wanted to do, patient with all the questions I had, and answered all of them. Even sent me a video on how to make the booking as I kept reserving the wrong packages. They picked us up and dropped us off, they made it effortless and convenient for your travels in every way!!! Great team, great spirit! So many options of activities to choose from, sorry we didn’t have more time to do more!! Thank you guys for everything!!!!

5.005 Star experience for 3 reasons: 1. The careful driving and courtesy of Jairo. 2. Maynor provided us witha very enjoyable trip. Maynor's English is excellent. He is very well informed. He is fun to be with. 3. The trip was very well organized. we did not spend any time waiting in line. We were perfectly positioned to enjoy both the sunset and great views of the molyen lava

5.00Very fun activities, Moses was very professional, he saved us a lot of time and his company made our activity fun and enriching. We recommend it to you to learn better about the culture but also to make everything faster and easier. His English is perfect which allows us to ask all the necessary questions and better organize our trip! The payment is done online, something that we were initially worry of, but everything is very well organized and it went well! Thank you a thousand times Moses and see you soon :)

5.00Moises was an absolutely exceptional guide. He was well informed on all aspects of Nicaragua and was personable and fun. He has a really great and comprehensive perspective on the country, nature, and... just all of it! He turned our experience into an informative and awesome evening and was super flexible in accommodating our plans. Just for comparison- last time I went to the Masaya Volcano, I booked a different guide bc I didn't know any better. They essentially dumped us off, told us nothing, and charged a ton of money. Not Moises! He spent so much time making sure we had the best evening ever. Book with this company- you absolutely won't regret it!!!
