Materuni Waterfalls
Materuni is the home of the Chagga tribe and is still an authentic tribal village. This charming place is just 15km away from Moshi Town and is the last village before the Kilimanjaro National Park. First you will visit the waterfalls, which are around a 40-minute walk away. On the way, trail can be slippery & muddy best to have good hiking boots. The views are truly breathtaking, and with some luck you will see the summit of Kilimanjaro. When you reach the waterfalls, you will see that they are more than 80 meters high. The pool at the bottom of the waterfall is an inviting place for a refreshing swim so don‘t forget your swimwear! After having enjoyed the scenery, you slowly return with your guide to Materuni village, where you will experience a traditional Chagga lunch. You also will have the opportunity to taste our local banana beer – definitely not to be missed! Tip: Chagga tribesmen are Tanzania’s finest brewers
Materuni Waterfalls
But that’s not all. Next the coffee experience awaits you. Here you will learn how coffee is cultivated, dried, roasted and further processed. You will also be invited to help with the grinding of the coffee, which is traditionally accompanied by Chagga songs and dances - a fun way to immerse yourself in the local culture. Before you say goodbye, you can savor the coffee you made and appreciate the views of the surrounding rainforest.

Surprisingly wonderful experiences, waterfall a must see, especially enjoyed the welcoming locals and looking over their farms, the lunch and coffee demonstration was amazing, great example of the entire process in one colourful song and dance, ending with us enjoying an amazing cup of coffee. Lunch was delicious, the variety was superb. The hot springs, not quite what we expected, it's more of a communal lagoon of clear water with a bit of a current. Too deep to walk and enjoy, you MUST hire a tube for the experience so bring $5 US each hire. The roads in general leading to all places left us feeling unsure we'd make it, slighting unsafe in instances, and it was a complete bone-rattling experience from the moment we left till we arrived back. Innocent was a delight helpful, respectful, young man.

We had a wonderful tour today. The sights are breathtaking but it was our guide Enock who made the tour unforgettable. He was very kind, interested, an excellent driver and he sang songs with us in the car. The tour was beautiful and we will not forget this day any time soon. Highly recommend booking here!

5/5 stars!!! Enock is a great guide. Super friendly and easy to talk to. Very knowledgeable about Materuni Falls and the surrounding areas. He made sure we were ok during the hike. Easy hike with a couple of hills but nothing too strenuous. We recommend him to other tourists and he will make a great safari guide in the future.

Wonderful experience, our guide Mr. Innocent was very kind in helping our 8 year old with the hike, negotiating with locals and dropping us to the airport on time. We did our entire tour with Safari SOLES and I highly recommend them for a perfectly planned tour.

This is a very full day with lots of beautiful sites to see. Enock was an amazing driver and guide. At the waterfalls, Junior assisted Enock along the hike to the beautiful falls. It is a good hike, so make sure you have good shoes. You are starting at about 5000' elevation. Along the trail, there are several people selling artwork and other wares. On the way back to the trailhead, you stop for an excellent coffee presentation and enjoyable lunch. The hot springs were gorgeous. There is a lot of driving, so be prepared for that. Some roads were quite rough. But Enock handled the roads famously and made the trek very enjoyable. He is also very knowledgeable about Tanzania and its people.

We recently took the Private Tour to Materuni Waterfalls, coffee tour and it was simply outstanding from start to finish. Our guide, Mr Enoke from Safari Soles was incredibly caring, knowledgeable, and attentive — a big reason this trip felt so special. From Arusha, the journey began with a comfortable ride to Materuni village. Once there, the 40-minute walk to the waterfall was peaceful and beautiful, weaving through lush forest and coffee plantations. Along the way, our guide shared stories about Chagga village life, local flora and fauna, and even pointed out interesting plants and their uses — it really made the hike much more than just a scenic stroll. When we reached Materuni Waterfalls, we were in awe: the waterfall is powerful and the pool at the bottom inviting — a perfect spot to relax, soak in the natural beauty, and even take a refreshing swim. Back in the village, we were treated to a delicious traditional Chagga lunch, full of local flavor. Then came one of my favorite parts: the coffee tour. We learned how coffee is grown, roasted, and ground the traditional way — and got to participate. We'll never forget sipping a freshly ground cup of Tanzanian coffee made from beans we helped process, all while locals sang and danced in celebration of their coffee heritage.

The hot spring looks very clear and beautiful, but unfortunately there is no way to get water in the period, there are bamboo tubs and swimming circles to use, but you have to pay extra. Coffee tour is also very interesting, to see how the locals make coffee, but it will sell you to buy coffee, the lunch offered is very local characteristics and is delicious.
