While I didn’t take part in an actual guided tour, the visit to the distillery was still a great experience. Firstly due to its cool and unusual location in Crumlin Road jail’s wing A building. And you can see the main hall even if you’re just visiting the cafe and the shop. And their cafe is amazing, they provide a good introduction if somebody does the whisky tasting flight and they also serve the most properly preparef Irish coffee I ever had. The shop also has lots of cool merchandise besides the whiskies.

I had a disappointing experience and I won’t be recommending it. The guide , called Sam made me , my sister and my dad feel very uncomfortable. They asked if anyone was here on a special occasion. It was my dad’s birthday and they made a joke of it in a very insensitive manner. They made the whole tour about themselves that they live 5 minutes up the road, which is great but we were there to learn about Whisky and passion in distillery and tasting it where it’s made. Another disappointment was that there were non whatsoever small and side glasses to buy. They also asked everyone where they come from and that alone put an emphasis on unnecessary chit chat instead of focusing on the whisky. Overall I felt like they couldn’t wait to see us leave.

The tour was brilliant! I've done many distillery tours and this one is my favourite so far. It was led by Sam who was not only very knowledgeable but also really entertaining. We also had a few drinks in the bar afterwards. Eoin is an excellent bartender/mixologist and very friendly. It was lovely to chat away to him.

The McConnells whiskey tour was amazing, one of the most fun and interesting distillery tours. Sam was our tour guide and she was very funny and informative. Shout out to Eoin at the bar who was very friendly and makes amazing cocktails. 10/10.

Excellent tour by Sam. Her optimism for Belfast and her job at McConnells shone through. Very informative and really enjoyed the whisky (without the 'E')

A great guide, but the tour is expandable. There is no “driving pack” for motorists, there were 3 whiskies on the table during tasting, but only two could be tasted, in the third glass was an unripened raw brandy. Unfortunately, the whiskies were not convincing. But an interesting building and free parking.

I liked the intimate small group we were in, and the surrounding prison. Very impressive restoration was done, and a touch of the history was great

We visited Crumlin Gaol on 2 January and decided to take the tour of the McConnell’s Whisky Distillery while we were there. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. We arrived via the Belfast Sightseeing Tour Bus, which stops right outside, making it very convenient. The tour lasted just over an hour. It began with a welcome drink of whisky with ginger ale while we learned a brief history of the McConnell family. Our guide Nikki, was excellent: knowledgeable, engaging, and full of interesting facts. We especially enjoyed the additional tasting of the different whiskies available towards the end of the tour. After the tour, there’s a lovely bar area where you can relax with a further drink, as well as a shop with souvenirs and bottles to take home. If you have the time while visiting Belfast, I would certainly recommend adding this tour to your itinerary.
