High mountains, forests and waters define the topography of one of the most beautiful areas of the East Antioquia, the Melcocho River and Río Verde de los Henaos canyons. We will cross ancestral paths, we will swim in pure and crystalline waters, we will go into distant mountains and cool off with water from the overflowing mosses of the Sonsón páramo.

High mountains, forests and waters define the topography of one of the most beautiful areas of the East Antioquia, the Melcocho River and Río Verde de los Henaos canyons. . Day 1: Departure from Medellín 6:15 M. Start of Trekking 10 am. We will take a descending path to cross the Melcocho River and begin our ascent towards Vereda El Cedro along paths with wide viewpoints of the Santo Domingo and Melcocho River canyons. We will continue ascending until we reach La cuchilla where we will divide the district of Río Verde de los Henaos towards where we will begin a long descent to the La Torre path where we will spend the night. Day 2: We will begin the tour at 8 am heading to Río Verde where we will take a refreshing swim. Later we will take a steep climb to cross Río Verde de los Montes. We will have a spectacular view of the Páramo de Sonsón. Day 3: We will begin the tour at 7 am, bordering Río Verde de los Montes for most of the time. The first hours are with moderate ascents. The last two hours are quite steep and pass through the most preserved parts of the Murringo path.

Our three day trek was incredible. We traveled through amazing farms, forests and across beautiful rivers. Diane was a great guide who shared insights into local plants, insects , animals and history. The entire experience was also really well integrated into the local community. The homestays were awesome and the people friendly and kind.

My daughter (age 15) and I had an amazing time on this trip. Diana was our guide and was exceptional. Her family has roots in that area, and she's familiar with the flora, fauna, and local customs. We stayed overnight in two different homes along the way and had lunch in a third. They were all very hospitable, welcoming, and clean. The food was excellent, and they prepared vegetarian food for my daughter. All the homes had running water and electricity, and the tour is a nice way to support the local economy. The hike was relatively mellow the first day, somewhat challenging the second, and a true workout the third day. The path in some areas has slippery rocks, especially the last day. The views were amazing, and we were in roadless areas the whole time. I highly recommend this trip if you are somewhat physically fit and have an adventurous spirit.
Hiking through the beautiful mountains and bathing in the amazing rivers helped us to connect with nature.

It was an amazing and incredible experience. The view was so spontaneous, breathtaking and so much to see. We enjoyed meeting different species of plant life and animals. The family we stayed by were also incredible and welcoming. We enjoyed the food there where we felt at home. We had the best, amazing and excellent tour guide ever. We look forward to doing more adventures again.

This hiking/backpacking best part of my trip to Medellín and I am already planning when I can do another route. It was so much more than a guided hike: it was a unique view into life in Antioquia, Colombia through the lens of a born and raised paisa! The views, opportunities to learn about nature, and people we encountered created a rich cultural immersion showcasing all the beauty of the region. One of the best parts were the many chances to swim in the clearest and most beautiful rivers/streams I have ever seen! With Erwin Andrés, I felt like one of the most popular people in the region because everyone was so excited to see him. Getting to stay in farm houses not only provided DELICIOUS food and comfort in the middle of wilderness, but also have a unique view into life in the countryside. His knowledge of plants, animals, and history if the area was extensive, and I was given enough information to write a book. If you are looking for a unique and authentic cultural experience surrounded by some of the most beautiful and diverse nature in the world, this is the perfect trip for you! (Even my tour guide for Real City Tours has done a trip with Aventura San Francisco.) Thank you so much for such a special time, and I cannot wait for the next one!

One of the most memorable experiences, we were able to enjoy nature in an eco-friendly and sustainable way, while deep in the magic of Andean forest and rivers. Andrés and Diana help you experience nature and interact with local communities in an real authentic way. I went along with my mother, brother and girlfriend, the trek itself can be a bit tuff but doable and 100% worth it. We are already planing my next visit as I want to experience some of the river activities available.

The Melcolcho river it´s a real paradise in the Cocorna because the water is crystalline, pure and fresh. It´s 2 hours from Medellin. I was there just one, but two friends already knew the river. We went on December 20th with my friends around twenty people. What a liked the most about that place the water, the friendly people and landscape. We could ride a horse or a donkey and walking for about 1 hour to saw other waterfalls. When we got to the river the first thing we did was enter the river because it was very hot. After that we did the camping. At night we did a fire and prepared a barbecue, they drank the town liquor the name Tapetuza, its cost was 5.000 the liter. I recommend the river Melcolcho because the water is fantastic, the people es very nice and the most important one leaves the routine, but it´s only for adventurous people. You must swim in the river and make a fire next to the river.
