Hosting the headwaters of Nova Scotia’s two finest rivers, the Medway Lakes Wilderness Area boasts small ancient lakes, sandy summertime beaches tucked in quiet coves and pine and hemlock sheltered campsites.
I don't want to shower you with superlatives and risk this sounding exaggerated and/or cheesy (maybe I already transgressed above) but there really is something special about this paddling region. The lakes are generally small and studded with scruggy (yep, I made that word up) little islands and there just seems to be more beaches than any other place we offer tours. I try not to make much fuss about the wildlife because it’s just not something we can guarantee on a trip, but every night we listened to coyotes singing or owls hooting or beavers splashing about.
This trip strikes a fine balance between rugged adventure and relaxing bliss.

My partner and I had a fabulous 3 day trip with Karlene as our guide on Fisher and Boot Lakes in mid-September. We were surprised to discover that we were the only ones who had booked onto the trip despite the weather being perfect for it. As such, we had what amounted to a bespoke guided tour of the lakes with Karlene being the perfect host. Food was copious and excellent - vegetarian/ vegan the whole way. The dark skies reputation of the area served up a treat of star gazing with Milky Way clear to see. Waking up to mist hugging the water and spotting frogs, eagles and kingfishers were just a few of the experiences that made the trip special. Water level was quite low so crossing pikes run took some effort but it was well worth it. I would urge anybody with a love of camping and being out in the back country to give this or one of Whynot's other trips a go. It was definitely one of the highlights of our 3 weeks in Eastern Canada.

Great experience with good guide Carolina! It was a leisurely tour in fine autumn weather with plenty of time to bathe and relax.

Fantastic service, equipment and guide. Beautiful location and route with some fun picking through the rocks. Went as part of a group and only needed to bring my clothes and toiletries everything else was provided. I don't have a single complaint or area for improvement jeez it didn't even rain! Special shout out to our guide Dylan quite the stellar feller!

Dylan, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable, personable, and helpful. His touch of humor made the trip both informative and enjoyable. The equipment was in excellent condition—some of it brand new—and the meals were fantastic. We were also blessed with perfect weather, which made our time in the woods even more memorable. The area was ideal for stargazing, adding an extra layer of magic to the experience. Highly recommend!

Dylan is a gentleman and a scholar. Very wise beyond his years. Down to earth, knowledgeable, patience, and respect are just a few qualities of him. A rare human for certain. The food was delicious. Very nourishing and plentiful. The trip itself was so tranquil, serene, and quiet. An excellent way to appreciate nature even in times of a nearby wildfire. I had an amazing experience. I would recommend to anyone looking for peace.

The trip was a real adventure on beautiful lakes. The trip went smoothly, despite the low water from lack of rain, which made the rocky portions between the lakes more of a challenge. We were fortunate to do the trip before the ban on visiting Nova Scotia forests due the danger of forest fires caused by the lack of rain. Carleen, our guide, with her paddling experience and background in entomology was at home in the back country and ably handled the details of the trip, such as the food, which was tasty.

Fantastic trip with an excellent guide. The area is amazing - so remote, unspoilt and beautiful. Our guide, Carleen, knew the routes and the best places to go for lunches and overnight. She is also knowledgeable on flora and fauna and history of the area. Equipment was very good and in good condition. I was delighted to find we had chairs as well as tents and sleeping stuff! All well organised - couldn't be faulted - from my intital contact up to and and including the trip itself with equipment and food provided and questions answered. Meals were excellent and just what was needed. I fully recommend and will book again if/when we return to Canada.
