• Great cruise, stunning landscape

  We had a great experience with Southern Discovery. We took a 9.30am cruise in late December. We were fortunate that the weather was perfect and the cruise wasn't full at all. The guides were great, as were all staff on the boat. They talked through all aspects of Milford Sound and found and pointed out a bunch of wildlife (seals, dolphins) and detoured to see them. We took our 1 and 4 year old. Our 4 year old got a little bored, but this was on us, not the cruise. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Milford Sound.

  We got from Qt in time for the 3.15pm cruise. The landscape was absolutely stunning. The cruise went down the fjord and back, stopping to see a waterfall and a small group of seals. Nothing fancy: just enjoy the view, which is amazing. The cruise felt really crowded: there were people on every inch of the boat. It did affect my experience since I had to tune out all the chit chat from people who seem to care less about where they were. It got quite annoying. It did feel like you had to fight for a spot to sit on. Not super comfortable. Maybe they could number the seats? The cost was ok. I found this cruise among tons of fancy dining cruises and such. This is simple and straightforward. Worth the money. What surprised me about the entry process was how jaded the whole staff was. The guy at the Cafe looked exhausted. No one had any spare energy left for manners. I kept seeing Tiaki signs in contrast with take off after take off of tour planes. I wonder what the pollution levels really are over there. The walk from the carpark to the visitor centre smelled of fuel. I felt guilty of having added to that. As you can see, this cruise left me railing. Anyway, beautiful place. Get ready for philosophical anxiety I guess.

  Brilliant, we are kiwis from the area just out for a wee adventure with a grandchild and thoroughly enjoyed the day. Everything is so user friendly and the crew we willing to go the extra chatting and engaging .totally recommend to anyone of any age,even wheelchair friendly as there was one on our cruise.

• Rude and Inconsistent Guide

  The guide treated people differently depending on who they were and was rude to me. He barely greeted me, which made the experience very unpleasant. I will never use this service again, and I recommend considering another company.

  My family and I loved our cruise. We drove there ourselves and boarded the midday cruise. The staff were friendly and informative. We found the cruise was good value for money and an amazing experience. Would recommend for future travellers

  This is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen! We loved seeing Milford Sound from the water. We were lucky that the boat we were on wasn't crowded. The guides were so kind and informative. We got very lucky and we got to see dolphins and seals!! The sun was out the whole time, but we still wore our jackets as you get sprayed by the water falls and the wind is chilly sometimes. We wish we could do this every weekend!! Totally worth the money.

  Our trip with Yoda and Ellie was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. Both of them were incredibly accommodating, friendly, and genuinely helpful throughout the entire journey. They even took photos of us, which was such a thoughtful touch and made the experience feel even more personal. We felt completely safe the whole time, and it was clear that they truly cared about everyone’s comfort and enjoyment. The stops along the way were amazing—beautiful destinations with just the right amount of time to explore without feeling rushed. Yoda and Ellie also shared fascinating information about the history of the places we visited, making the trip not only fun but also enriching. We always knew what was happening and what to expect next, which made everything run smoothly and allowed us to just relax and enjoy the experience. Overall, we felt well looked after, informed, and entertained. Highly recommend this coach and cruise experience—especially with Yoda and Ellie!

  This is an amazing trip. The coach cruise fly option is the way to go. It was the highlight of our holiday so far. Southern Discoveries and Air Milford was a perfect combination. Handovers and communication and commentary throughout the day was excellent. Advice: book the premium coach seats ( if available) ; take your own lunch ( we didn’t eat the buffet but the queue looked hideous) ; fly back ( it seems a lot to pay at the time but if this is your special trip of a lifetime, you won’t regret it)
