As a protected marine sanctuary rich with nutrients, the Monterey Bay Submarine Canyon thrives with a bounty of breathtaking wildlife including Humpback Whales, Killer Whales, Gray Whales, Blue Whales, Sperm Whales, Risso Dolphins, Long Beaked Common Dolphin, Bottlenose Dolphin, Dall’s Porpoise, Mola Mola aka Ocean Sunfish, Jellyfish, Sea Turtles, Sea Lions, Pelicans, Sea Otters and so much more! 3.00We did see gray whales, however, due to distance restrictions they were 50 to 100 yards away (the whales only show the top of their body and their tales, not the jumps out of water shown in the ads), so you basically needed binoculars. The boat found a pack relatively soon after departing and then we spent the entire 2-3 hours listening to the (while passionate and knowledgeable) ship guide talked non stop trying to fill the time between the whales resurfacing. It got to be a bit much. We would have enjoyed more exploration of the ocean by the captain and ship guide. The boat was nice and decent size.

2.00We got caught in traffic behind a road construction project on highway 1 and arrived at 12:32 - only to watch the boat leaving without us. No call, no attempt to see if we were close. Extremely disappointing. We did get a refund though.

5.00This is awesome. We saw groups of whales (8 in total) and some dolphins, sun fish, otters…etc. The cruise members are super organized and friendly as well, highly recommended!

5.00I would do this again over the aquarium. Large group but did not feel overcrowded. Check-in was easy and staff was friendly. Tour length was as advertised. Expect a longer ride to the whale areas from Monterey, but better than driving up to San Jose in my opinion. Parking at the Wharf for the early trip was easy, even with our camper/truck/bike rack.
