Welcome to Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay! We’ll be waiting for you at the meeting point in the Port of Montevideo to start the tour of Ciudad Vieja. Our first stop is Plaza Constitución, where we'll visit the historic Montevideo Cathedral. Stroll with us through this charming square, surrounded by antiques and pieces of Uruguayan history.
Plaza Independencia
Then, we will get back on the minivan for a brief 3-minute drive to Plaza Independencia. Alongside the guide, you will learn about iconic buildings such as the Salvo Palace, the Executive Tower, the City Gate, the Solís Theatre, and the Estevez Palace.

4.00Enjoyed this tour, which was mainly by minibus, which meant we were able to see more of the city. Pity we did not have the opportunity to see the statues at Independence Plaza, as we were too early and the cathedral was not open to the public, for some reason.

5.00I got off the cruise ship and finally able to check my emails. I found out my apartment I rented had been cancelled. At the next stop I told the tour operator my problem, I would be homeless in Buenos Aires. My old IPAD was also low on battery power. Without hesitation he went and bought a converter so I could get enough power to get a new rental. He wouldn’t take any money for it. I was able to do it just in time. I thanked him. We finished the tour and I tipped him. He then came back to where I was sitting to make sure I was good before he left. Now that’s kindness in its purest form. The tour was good but the tour operator was pure gold as I am traveling alone.

3.00My understanding was that this was an English tour. Though pleasant and knowledgeable, our guide S was not what I have come to expect of a guide. S indicated a few sites while we were driven by but rarely gave any details of the landmarks. To those who asked questions(2 couples at the front of the bus asked many) he would give lengthy answers without once repeating the question so the rest of the bus could hear. He also answered one of the couples only in Portuguese?, and so those answers, even if you were lucky enough to hear them could not be understood because of the language
