The 4x4 Extended backcountry tour offers all Highlight stops and additional stops that are not covered in the regular backcountry tour. Spend more time with your Navajo guide and indulge in an experience that uncovers the secrets, myths, and legends of the Navajo Culture. Navigate through 28 miles of Monument Valley's Finest spectacles where movies, commercials, and performances were made. Enjoy the luxury of exploring areas that are off-limits to normal travelers; and listen and watch your guide bring the monuments to life through its history, story telling, and live performances. Enjoy a visit to a local Navajo Hogan and watch a demonstration of the art of Navajo Rug Weaving. Behind the breathtaking Mesas, Buttes, Spires, and Arches there are hidden stories waiting to be told.
The Tribal Park Admission Fee is not included. ($8 per person)

5.00We took the Monument Valley Extended BackcountryTour with Larry from Monument Valley Tribal Tours. Everything about it was wonderful. We were a party of 3 adults (couple with young adult daughter), grouped with a younger family of 4. Because it was a cold day winter day, we were in Larry’s comfortable heated van rather than an open air vehicle. (We saw people on other tours in those and they looked freezing.) We made numerous stops along the scenic route and in the backcountry. We were given the option of a stop to see a weaving demonstration in a Navajo hogan or more stops on the tour. We even saw some petroglyphs! Larry was interesting and easy to hear, personable, knowledgeable, and polite- truly an outstanding guide. He played his flute for us on one of the stops and shared stores passed along by his people. I highly recommend taking this tour!

5.00Our Navajo guide, Larry, gave us talks about the history of Monument Valley, the geology of the area, and even played his Navajo flute for us in Big Hogan and in the van. He was very informative, very personable, and answered all of our questions. All in all, we were very pleased with the experience!

5.00Larry is great, we had an incredible experience touring monument valley. He took the time to explain the history, and cultural significance, which made the experience much more meaningful. Overall, this was a highlight of our trip. I highly recommend this tour and especially Larry as a guide.

5.00We had the absolute best time with Larry, who turned our day into an unforgettable experience. He was not only incredibly knowledgeable, but he shared every story with a spark that made the land come alive. We learned so much, laughed even more, and felt completely at ease every step of the way — he truly made the experience special. We also want to express our deep respect for the Indigenous land we explored and the people whose history, traditions, and stories continue to shape it. Being able to learn from and walk through this land with intention and gratitude made the day even more meaningful. Thank you, Larry, for guiding us with so much heart, wisdom, and good humor. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide or a more beautiful experience.
