  If you want a real adventure, this is it. Everything was organized perfectly, from the prompt hotel pickup to the entry tickets being sorted out for us. The terrain gets pretty technical near the top, but the guides—especially Komang—are literal mountain goats and know every foothold. Eating hot banana sandwiches and drinking coffee at the highest point in Bali was the ultimate reward.

  We hiked Mount Batur a few years ago, but Agung is on a completely different level. It’s way less crowded, much more peaceful, and significantly harder. Walking through the forest in the dark with just our torches was so quiet and serene. Our guide Jenar paced us perfectly so we didn't burn out. Bring a warm jacket because it gets freezing at the summit while you wait for the sun!

  My friends and I are relatively fit, but this trek humbled us real quick! It’s challenging, especially the rocky sections near the crater. Thank goodness the tour provided hiking poles and our guide Ketut made sure we all had good headlamps, because we definitely needed them. The view from the top is out of this world, though. Watching the island wake up from above the clouds is something I’ll never forget.

  I’m not going to sugarcoat it—this hike is absolutely grueling. We started in the pitch black and it’s basically a steep incline the entire way up. But our guide, Gede, was incredibly patient and knew exactly when we needed to rest. Reaching the summit just as the sky started turning pink was a spiritual experience. The breakfast they provided wasn't fancy, but honestly, it tasted like the best meal of my life after that climb. The AC vehicle ride back to Ubud was a godsend because we passed out immediately.

  I booked this as a solo traveler and felt completely safe and well taken care of the entire time. The pickup from my hotel in Ubud was right on time. Hiking under a sky full of stars was surreal, but the real show is the sunrise. Seeing the shadow of Mount Agung stretch across Bali and spotting Mount Rinjani in the distance gave me goosebumps. Huge shoutout to my guide Wayan who even took some epic photos for me at the top.

  Don’t let the word “hike” fool you, this is a serious climb! We loved every minute of it though. The guides, especially Gede, are incredibly fit and casually jogged up while we were huffing and puffing. They prepared a lovely breakfast for us right at the crater edge. The golden hour lighting up the volcanic rock made for some of the best photos of our entire trip.
