Mount Sibayak is ideal for beginners, offering a relatively short hike with stunning views of the Karo Highlands. From the peak, you’ll be able to enjoy breathtaking landscapes, fresh air, and even glimpse other nearby mountains.
Lau Sidebukdebuk (Hot Spring), located at the foot of Mount Sibayak in Semangat Gunung Village, is a natural attraction with water temperatures of 40-45°C. The hot spring’s sulfuric water, with about 16% sulfur content, flows through cracks in the lava from Mount Sibayak.
This trip provides an authentic experience, immersing travelers in local Karo traditions while hiking a volcano and connecting with the local community. It’s suitable for solo hiker, couples, family and groups.

5.00Overall, our experience with Nusan was exceptional. He is a handsome, humble and highly knowledgeable guide who genuinely cares for his clients. Throughout the hike, he ensured our safety, provided food and hot drinks, and never once left anyone behind. His storytelling about history and nature added so much value to the journey, and he always knew when to give us encouragement or a well-timed rest stop. On top of that, he is a sincere person who never asks for payment, entertains with humour, and surprises us with unique forest ‘magic’, including special plants and wild berries. With his professionalism, warmth, and dedication, Nusan truly made our Gunung Sibayak adventure unforgettable.

5.00Guider Abg Nusan is an exceptionally professional and dedicated guide. He is not only handsome and friendly, but also very caring and always ensures the safety and comfort of his clients throughout the Gunung Sibayak hike. Nusan never leaves his clients behind, prepares food and hot drinks, and shares fascinating knowledge about history and nature along the trek. He is attentive to his clients’ condition, offers encouragement, and provides timely pit stops whenever we look tired. A professional photographer who provided high-quality lenses and priceless memories for all of us. He is not calculative and never asks for payment, always working with genuine sincerity. Throughout the journey, he entertained us with jokes and fun stories. He even performed a little magic trick with a forest flower, and showed us various interesting things such as the ‘wind-oil’ leaf, wild raspberries, and many more. His humble attitude, extensive knowledge, and strong commitment truly made our hiking experience enjoyable and memorable. very recommendedddddd 👍💓

5.00Recently went to medan specifically to do this hike. The highlight of my trip definitely! Our guide (Nusan the one whom fetch us from our hotel & our main guide, John is such an easygoing/knowledgable and accommodating person) For a firsttimer hike, we wasnt really prepared and had not bring any extra jackets or torchlights, but they literally borrowed us thiers. John always takecare, and be wary of our surroundings for us ensuring we didnt trip while hiking up those steep rocks. once we've reach the top there is other tourguides too, and all of them cares for all the tourist ensuring everyone is safe and happy. On the way back down the gunung, John even showed us and teaches us alot of things, like the 'predator plant/banana leaves used for homes, pegaga leaves etc'. I definitely had no regrets and am really happy with the service rendered. I would recommend to everyone 100%! Thankyou so much.

5.00Our hike up Mount Sibayak was absolutely unforgettable! The trail offered a mix of rocky terrain, misty views, and that distinct sulfur smell that reminds you you’re walking on an active volcano. The crater area was stunning — the greenish-yellow lake surrounded by steam vents and rugged rock formations made for a surreal, almost otherworldly scene. Mount Sibayak is perfect for beginner to intermediate hikers who want a taste of volcanic adventure without an overly long trek. Highly recommended for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone seeking a unique outdoor experience in Sumatra. 🌄✨

5.00We’ve had an incredible trekking tour with Nusan and hiked up from Berastagi City all the way up to Mount Sibayak. Starting at 2.30 am in a rainy morning and after arriving the peak we were lucky to watch the fantastic sunrise on the volcano. We have booked a private Hike with Nusan for walking a longer distance instead of going up halfway by car. He was a very great guide, told us many things about the volcano itself, the nature as well as some historical and cultural facts about Sumatra and Indonesia. Nusan is such a kind guide, we felt safe all the time and really enjoyed our trip. Many, many thanks again for your time and perfect organization. I can highly recommend this trek with Nusan and couldn’t imagine a better guide 😊🙏
