Upon seeing this tour through the Viator app, it looked like it was going to be a unique day, visiting Koyasan. Traveling to Japan for the first time, I was staying in Osaka for the first couple of days. I had been wondering which train would take me from downtown Osaka, all the way to Koyasan. The main challenges that I had was the almost two-hour train ride from my residence, journeying south, arriving at the mountain. My guide, Yuki, was kind enough to help me with pre-tour preparations talking to me through email and through text messages to make sure I had all the information that was necessary. We talked about the train scheduling and the steps towards purchasing tickets. The Nankai Heritage fare at the train station in Osaka was all inclusive of the train’s final stop at Gokurakubashi Station, Cable Car to the bus station, and unlimited bus rides within the town of Koyasan. It was great to visit the various temples and religious sites in between the old-growth forests with cooler mountain air and sunny weather. Yuki was well versed in Koyasan’s history and it was very informative regarding Buddhism in Japan. It was nice to learn about the history and move amongst the temples while admiring nature in the Autumn season. Having had a guide, such as Yuki, I felt like I was able to make the most of my day. I felt at ease and unhurried, as we made our way to each of the stops on our itinerary. Even as the tour of Mt. Koya finished, Yuki also made sure I was able to ride all buses and trains for my return train to Osaka. Well worth the visit!

We had a wonderful day with Yuki, our guide, in Koyasan. Just outside Osaka, this mountain has been a sacred place for monks for more than a thousand years. We visited the cemetry and the temples, and had lunch a very cosy meal at a tiny restaurant. Yuki knew a lot about Budhism and could tell us all the details of the temples. The tour was very informative and Yuki was a very friendly and good host!

He showed us the main places of Koyasan. The guide explained the various tourist attractions very carefully and I was impressed. I also appreciate the resourcefulness with which they have adjusted their plans to fit the pace of the participants. I was also happy to know that they immediately researched and booked places for Ajikan experience and Shojin cuisine.

We have seen beautiful nature and culture and learned a lot from our guide. Without her information and guidance, the walk would not have been so beautiful. She knew a lot. And told animatedly. She tailored our itinerary to our preferences and was also very cordial.

We had a wonderful experience with our tour guide Miyuki in Koyasan. She led us on a lovely walking tour through the area, sharing insights and stories that brought the historic sites to life. She was knowledgeable, kind, and attentive to our pace and interests. One of the highlights was the delicious lunch she arranged for us at a charming local restaurant—it was such a special touch and a great way to experience the local culture. Thank you for making our visit to Koyasan so memorable!
