Take bus no. 1 (direction Kriens/Obernau) from Lucerne’s train station. After an 11-min. bus ride to the station "Kriens, Zentrum Pilatus" and a short walk, you reach the valley station in Kriens. The Panorama Gondolas take you to the middle station Fräkmüntegg in 30 min. where you can try the rope park or the Dragon Glider (own expenses). Change to the aerial cableway "Dragon Ride" to the top (5 min.). From Pilatus Kulm, enjoy the panoramic views over Lake Lucerne and the Swiss Alps and either stay inside the panoramic gallery, relax on the terrace, climb one of the peaks or enjoy a local specialty in our restaurants (own expenses). The world's steepest cogwheel railway brings you back down to Alpnachstad in 35 min. Next to the valley station you board the boat cruise on Lake Lucerne. After 1-1.5 hours you arrive in Lucerne, near the train station. The trip can also be done in the opposite direction, starting by boat from Lucerne. In any case check the timetable before your visit.
If you opt for the departure from Kriens valley station, take the Panorama Gondolas and the aerial cableway "Dragon Ride" to the top.

5.00It sounded like a pretty complicated day but everything went smoothly. We had a very enjoyable day in this beautiful place. The only negative was that the visibility at the top was poor.
Took my breath away. Second time going there.

5.00Spectacular. Took cig train up and gondola down. Get your tickets before you arrive. We used uber from hotel to train and gondola back to hotel. Very reasonable. Reasonably priced snack bar at the top for lunch.

3.00Hard time getting my ticket. It wouldn’t let me pull up on my phone. Probably no WiFi. Other than that ok. Directions weren’t clear either. I’m 74. Quite a Tokyo that hill.

3.00Unexpectedly This was a self guided tour. I would not have found my way without help from hotel. Without guide I enjoyed the scenery but did not learn any more about Lucerne.

5.00This was a perfect way to travel from Lucerne to Mount Pilatus. We got to experience the beautiful boat ride, cog train, cable car, gondola and then bus back. Mount Pilatus was beautiful

5.00An experience not to be missed when visiting Switzerland. We took the cable car to the summit and returned by rail and finally boat across the lake. Enjoyed every minute and everything went off without a problem.

4.00The three tours themselves were fantastic. The explanations of the logistics not so great. We definitely could have used more guidance. It all worked out but it could have been a bit smoother.

5.00The experience was outstanding, but the explanation was very confusing. 1. Explain that start times are optional. We should have started much earlier. There was so much to do and see. 2. Explain that one activity ends, and the other begins at that exact site. The flow was unclear.

4.00The overall experience was great - we had a bit of difficulty with the information provided by Viator. They didn’t mention that in addition to the ticket for the cogwheel train, you also need to reserve a time/seat, at an additional cost of 10 CHF. This is not a guided tour, so you are on your own on finding what per/time the boat from Lucerne leaves, and it’s a bit of a hike (downhill) from where the gondola drops you off in Kriens to the bus that takes you back to the city. The view from the top of Pilatus of the Alps above the clouds made it all worthwhile and I highly recommend this day trip out of Lucerne.
