Welcome to the Museum Somme 1916.
Located at the heart of the Battles of the Somme (1914-1918), in a tunnel which was converted into an air-raid shelter in 1938, the Somme Trench Museum recreates the life of soldiers in the trenches of the July 1916 offensive, where the allies attacked the positions held by the Germans.

Musee Somme 1916
The museum is accessible in 4 languages (French- English - German - Dutch). The struggles that took place in the Somme in 1916 were one of the most terrible battles of the First World War. From our entrance hall next to the Basilica, visitors enter a 250 meters long tunnel that is 10 meters below surface. As you leave the tunnel you enter our souvenir shop and ultimately Albert’s town park. Here WW1 scenes in a series of fifteen different alcoves tell the tale of trench warfare in the Somme. We also have 25 display cabinets in which you can study all kinds of WW1 artifacts and weaponry. Sound and light effects add to the experience, taking you back to the time of the Great War. The final part of your visit is the Gallery of Heroes, dedicated to nine individuals who distinguished themselves during the war. The exit of the museum being in the public garden of the city, you will be able to discover the Arboretum where also floes the Ancre river with its cascades. NEW FREE APP

5.00The museum is a must see if you are in the area. We rented a car from Paris and drove up 1.5 hrs and stayed a couple days to tour all the grounds that were fought over and in. I say frustrating because mankind is not as civilized as you would think; the wars have continued since caveman days and obviously are not going to stop. It is continuous, we are living history. Old men lie and our young die. :-(

5.00Excellent visit to this small museum outdoors but once entered it is beautiful and with a whole bunch of objects armaments and paintings of mannequins all underground. To finish small walk outdoors with animals and children's games in a park

5.00It doesn’t look like much in the entryway, but down below is an INCREDIBLE set of displays with a ton of real WWI artifacts. We felt like this museum let you get up close to WWI to a degree that is moving and at times disturbing (medical room, the room showing rats, etc.). Impressive displays of mortars, all manner of guns, personal effects, and random stuff from the actual people and sites. Absolutely a must-see for anyone wanting to dive into WWI.

4.00Definitely worth visiting to learn more about the WW1 battles. We were doing a tour of the battlefields and memorials and found this a good introduction. There were English translations. The only issue we had was the section at the end with flashing lights and gunfire sounds. Epilepsy trigger for my family member. There is a warning but to avoid it you need to retrace completely and go back out the entrance. There should be a way to turn this off so people can go out through the exit. There are staff just on the other side so they could have a way to do this.

5.00museum to make a nugget that tells the story in the trenches a very nice shop a friendly park at the exit to see the basilica and Albert a beautiful small town
