Accessibility:
As our walking tours take place around historic landmarks, there are aspects of our tours that we are unable to alter. These include uneven temple stairs, steep gradients and patchy sidewalks. Guests should be physically capable of climbing steps and prepared to walk around an urban environment for up to 2 hours.
Weather:
There will be times where the weather may affect the tour start time. We operate rain or shine but if the conditions are severe, such as an intense downpour, we’ll call you before the start. Consider this part of your Bali adventure!
Environmental Commitment:
We, at Ubud Story Walks want to do our part and decrease the plastic in Bali’s rivers. Please bring a reusable bottle for water refills.
Temple Etiquette:
Balinese temples are religious and sacred places. To show respect, both men and women must dress modestly by wearing a sarong that covers the legs below the knee. Guests may bring their own sarong or use one provided.

Pura Penataran Sasih
Wearing traditional sarongs and sashes, we'll enter one of Bali's oldest temples where our small group will get exclusive access to Southeast Asia's largest bronze kettle drum. Here, we'll learn how local myths and legends intertwine with this powerful artifact, known as the Moon of Pejeng.
Pura Pusering Jagat
Our journey continues down the road to one of Bali's six main Kahyangan (directional) temples, believed to be at the island's center. As we explore this sacred temple complex, we'll examine the intricately carved "Pejeng Vessel" and discuss the early spread of Buddhism and Hinduism in Southeast Asia.

What an incredible experience this tour was. My 83year old mother and I loved this tour with Joe our tour guide today. It opened our eyes to the history and culture of Bali, the sacred artefacts of the temples we visited. Joe was so welcoming and knowledgeable about the history of the area and the links between ancient past and the modern Balinese culture. He took time to answer questions and also took care of us navigating road crossings and pathways. We learnt so much about the temples and archaeological museum. We also appreciated the visit to a local family home and the opportunity to see how locals live, their family temple and experience Balinese morning tea and snacks. This was not a difficult walk, all flat and a few steps to get into temples. My mother managed the walk easily! We highly recommend this tour. Thank you Joe!

Having already spent a few days in Ubud we had few questions which our lovely guides Joe and Bagus were more than willing to answer in addition to the pleasant walk between temples of Pejeng town which is much quieter then Ubud. It is a short Grab ride from Ubud to the start of the location of this tour and worth it to get out of the hustle and bustle of Ubud. An unexpected highlight of the tour for us was the open air museum which houses sarcophagus found in Bali from the pre-historic era. A real eye opener for us as such ancient artifacts are usually found behind lock and key in museums and far from their origin. We have great memories from our tour and thank Ubud Story Walks and our guides for providing such a great service.

Easy 4000+steps, very few steps! 2.5 hours! Joe was very informative! Love the stories about the moon of Pejeng and tantra… who knew Bali had sarcophagi! Go early and visit the local market before the tour starts!

We were very lucky to be there on the same day as a ceremony so that we could see the temple in its full glory with lots of people and activities. Even if you don't get the same experience, the guide is lovely and brings a wealth of information as well as pictures to share. Am deeply appreciative that they conducted the tour even though I was the only person that day, very professional and committed!

We had an organised trip through our hotel for a private tour of the myth of pejeng with Ubud story walks. We had 2 young ladies as our guides, who were so knowledgeable and so friendly. We did the 4 stops, Pura penataran Sasih, Pura Pusering Jagat, Pura Kebo Eden and the museum. We had a stop at a local home and got to look around and have a drink and local snack. We were fortunate to see local people presenting offerings. Very interesting and our 2 guides made it for us.

Win was an incredible guide, allowing time for all of our complex questions. She took good care of us, bringing proper attire, sunblock, and bug repellent. We got to see and learn so many fascinating things about the history of the area and Bali. Also, very cute temple animals joined the trip! Highly recommend this tour as a way to orient yourself to this beautiful culture and place!
