Our Nocturnal Glow-worm tour takes 2.5 to 3 hours and includes a 2 kilometer walk. We will depart from Rotorua in a minivan, small group (8 people). Depart times vary depending on season. Once there after a walk through the darkness of native bush you will be guided by the sound of running water. Soon towering banks will rise up around you. Then in this moment turn off your flashlight and you will not be disappointed. Literally thousands of glow worms lite up like night sky, forming their own constellations all around you. At any time of the year it is unlikely that the glow worms will be the only wildlife that you encounter. Wallabies and Possums patrol the area and their rustling, along with the eerie call of the morepork, will provide the sound effects for you night walk. Out of the forest the 'star' gazing is at is best on a clear dark night sky. Come along, soak up the atmosphere and learn about New Zealand's incredible night life.

Unique experience and very informative. Saw lots of creatures and the forest at night was absolutely beautiful. Was a great evening with the family.

Stephen is one of the best guides we have come across in our travels. His vast knowledge of all things flora and fauna, especially glow worms was exceptional and all explained with care and humour making the night well worth it. Although the weather wasn’t the warmest, Stephen decked us all out in gum boots and torches, guiding us through a pristine native forest that takes on a life of its own after dark. Stephen, many thanks for the anecdotes and hot chocolate (shaken, not stirred) at the end of the night as well as the incredible photos you took of us to remember the experience.

I went back and forth on which glowworm tour to choose during my New Zealand trip (something informative, unique, more authentic vs touristy, etc) and this tour was perfect! Stephen was very knowledgeable and shared all kinds of information plus had fun stories about how he formed this ideal tour (so many torches he went through). The fact that the tour was so small made it feel very personalized and Stephen was very accommodating with pickup/dropoff location if you were in central Rotorua. And if you wonder how many glowworms you see on this trip let me just say at one point in the woods you look up and see stars and then you look back down at the cliff face and you could swear you are still looking at stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If you like the smaller, more personal, thorough, knowledgeable of flora, fauna, history, THE BEST unexpected couple photo session! Ten minutes into the trail we’d forgotten about the Glowworms! …because he first sought and found wild wallabies…and we got as close as we could for some times…then we were off to take our first photos under the Silverleaf fern. When we ultimately reached the glow worms, repeatedly, Stephen said…we’re not there yet! And four stops later…it was like hundreds of stars in the night sky…once you see them, they are everywhere. He took his time helping us photo correctly, detailed, zoomed…of tiny, delicate, beautiful moss, fern, mushrooms…and giant Silverleaf ferns! And at the end of the trail…hot chocolate made by his, obviously, lovely wife, Rosita (yes, Rosita, he shook it first ♥️) It was an absolutely magical, fantastical night. Stephen was Boy Scout level prepared with multiple type flashlights ( even giving me a plan for even better moonlight hikes back home) He has relentlessly tested the best options for lighting of the path, the flora and the glow worms and wallabies (who, with red light, did NOT realize we were there! …so we got to observe them for some time…and, a rare sighting…one was a mam with a baby in her pouch🥹 *SO*MANY**BONUSES*. And then … 10pm finish…hot chocolate before the drive back to town☕️ RATING. ALL THE STARS! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️MORE IF I COULD!

I’ve done a number of glow worm tours in natural and simulated environments but this was something special. Walking through the forest at night is completely different and Stephen’s knowledge was excellent (his photography skills were pretty good too!). Highly recommend this experience and company.
