Our Nocturnal Glow-worm tour takes 2.5 to 3 hours and includes a 2 kilometer walk. We will depart from Rotorua in a minivan, small group (8 people). Depart times vary depending on season. Once there after a walk through the darkness of native bush you will be guided by the sound of running water. Soon towering banks will rise up around you. Then in this moment turn off your flashlight and you will not be disappointed. Literally thousands of glow worms lite up like night sky, forming their own constellations all around you. At any time of the year it is unlikely that the glow worms will be the only wildlife that you encounter. Wallabies and Possums patrol the area and their rustling, along with the eerie call of the morepork, will provide the sound effects for you night walk. Out of the forest the 'star' gazing is at is best on a clear dark night sky. Come along, soak up the atmosphere and learn about New Zealand's incredible night life.

5.00Our guide Steve, provided a tour that was educational, beautiful and thoughtful. From the moment we stepped into the tour van, through to our return, Steve was a wealth of information and humour. Respect for the nature, our safety, and the land owners was paramount. The worms did not disappoint. A jaw dropping experience. And to top it off, he staged us for some artistic night photos by a roaring waterfall. Wow!

5.00This nighttime walking tour was fantastic--a unique, wonderful way to see glow worms, waterfalls, local flora, wildlife, and insects in an intimate and comfortable setting. Steven, an extremely knowledgeable tour guide, took care of everything from start to finish, including giving us rain boots (if needed) and having the perfect flashlights handy. He assists with and takes incredible photos too. Definitely a highlight of our New Zealand visit!

5.00I can only agree to what everyone has said about this tour. Steve is an absolutely fantastic guide. His enthusiasm, knowledge and his real desire for everyone to learn something while having a great time is obvious. I would highly recommend this tour. I almost forgot the hot chocolate that he serves at the end off the tour. What a treat!!

5.00A 500 OUT OF 5 GLOWWORM STARS EXPERIENCE!! This tour is much more than seeing glowworms in a dark forest - it’s an all-in-one bundle of nature knowledge, forest adventure, and nature amazement. Highly recommend for everyone, and even for myself who grew up from a city setting, found this wilderness very manageable (alongside my mom who’s 68 years old too)

5.00Steve was such a knowledgeable and funny guide! He gave us a clear safety briefing and explained everything about Rotorua and the glowworms in a way that was easy to follow. I really appreciated how respectful he was toward the locals, and his stories about the flora and fauna made the whole experience richer. He even helped us get the perfect setup for photos. And the glowworms… wow. They were absolutely magical and something I’ll never forget.

5.00One of our favourite experiences in New Zealand so far. Tour guide (Stephen) was a well knowledge and stories and really provided a 5 star experience throughout. Would recommend to anybody visiting Rotorua as a must!

5.00The Real Rotorua Nocturnal Glow Worm tour is exceptional. There is certainly no need to go all the way to Waitomo to see the Glow Worms! This is a small group night hike in a forest just outside Rototura. Stephen willi pick you up and return you to any centrally located Rotorua lodging or the Visitor Center. On the way out of town he swings by an overlook with incredible sunset views. Once off the busy roads, he stops several times to point out trees unique to NZ and a couple of creatures we ran across on the way. When we reached our destination, Steve passed out a white light torch plus a red light torch to each participant. The hike is on a forest trail which eventually winds along a creek. It is not paved, has many tree roots and although wide enough, does fall off into the creek in some places. Appropriate footwear is necessary and you should consider your balance as hiking poles are impractical while carrying the two torches. It's an amazing hike with several stops where Steve shows various plants, insects etc. When you are in the Glow Worm locations he explains what creates their Glow and other nuances about them. You will see them in small clusters as well as in groups of 100s! As you return to the van, he points out star constellations and even starlinks! This is a quality tour that should not be missed. Rotorua has many over commercialized tours. This is not. If you want a 'Real' experience, book this one.
The sparkling glow worms are just beyond amazing. Stephen is very knowledgeable and passionate about the forest.

5.00Such a beautiful sight. Even with rain. Good idea to have proper footwear/rain wear depending. (Although he has extra). Can be wet bits and slippery rocks. Stephen made sure we were all safe, it is dark after all. Seeing palms in the dark very different. He took some great photos of everyone. great photos.

5.00Incredible experience. Learned a lot about plants and the life cycle of glow worms in the redwood forest. The hike was a little challenging for us 75 yo's but fun.
