On this full-day tour, you and your private driver-guide will explore the emblematic sites and the landing beaches of D-Day.
We will visit the battlefield at La Point du Hoc, where numerous bombs craters still scatter the landscape. We will scout several sections of Omaha Beach, retracing the steps of the US soldiers who managed to secure a beachhead on the most hostile seashore on D-Day. We will pay respects to the thousands of fallen heroes buried at the US cemetery. And we will see the original German canons still fixed in their concrete bunkers, along with the remains of the artificial harbor on Gold Beach in Arromanches. If of interest and if time remains, we can drive through the quaint town of Bayeux to view the infamous ancient "Tapestry of Bayeux".

Pointe du Hoc
The Pointe du Hoc is a 110 ft cliff overlooking the English Channel located a few miles west of Omaha Beach. A strategic position where the Germans assembled a series of artillery and fortifications and where the US Second Ranger Battalion attacked and captured after scaling the impressive rock face on June 6th, 1944. You'll be able to explore original German bunkers by walking between the bomb craters on a path following the bluff.

Pierre-yves, our tour guide, was great. Accommodating our needs and requests! Nice comfortable van. It’s a long drive from Paris (2.5-3 hrs) so you’ll only have time to see the American Cemetery, Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach (just a quick drive by with no stop), lunch in the small town of Bayeux and then just one additional stop after lunch. We chose the medic chapel, “Église Saint-Côme et Saint-Damien d'Angoville au Plain, which was close to Utah Beach. Back to Paris by 7:15pm.

It is hard describe the fantastic day we had with Pierre Yves as our tour guide for our day trip to the Normandy area of France. To start, Pierre arrived at our hotel in downtown Paris right on time at 7am. We drove for about 2 hours and stopped for a coffee and croissant break. From there it was just under an hour to Point du Hoc. Pierre guided us through the battlefield, pointed out many historical areas and his knowledge of US history and D-Day was outstanding. Our next stop was Omaha Beach. This was moving, seeing the sites and trying to imagine the troops coming ashore and Pierre was extremely helpful with his descriptions of D-Day. We then proceeded to the American Cemetery. We were moved beyond words with the visit. Pierre pointed out many grave sites and had stories about the individuals that were buried. Our last stop was at a coastal town of Port en Bessin. Pierre provided us many options for lunch and we picked Hotel La Marine - my wife and I invited Pierre to join us and to make the day even better, he suggested a magnificent bottle of wine for us to enjoy. We were dropped back off in Paris by 7pm-- Overall the tour was fantastic. Pierre made every effort to let us go at our own pace, we never felt uncomfortable or rushed the entire day. We will contact him on our next trip to guide us at both the Louvre and Versailles on our next visit to Paris.
