We pick you up in Tromsø and take you by minibus on a chase for the magical Northern lights. With the best local knowledge we will find the best area for the lights and good scenery for your pictures. To find a clear sky we will drive where we have to, even to Finland if needed. Our family ran company, Tromsø Friluftsenter, focus on small groups that gives the personal touch. Since 2004 we have given our guests adventures from our hearts. During the evening your guide will show you a movie and tell you information about the Northern lights, both the science and the folklore. We will also help you to adjust your camera settings for pictures of the northern lights, and take pictures of you with the lights for you to take home to show your family and friends. (Available for download in original size from our Flickr account). We may also visit our lavvu (our modern Sami shelter) and sit around the nice warm bonfire.(If we are within reasonable driving distance from our base camp). Occasionally the chance of a clear sky is low, and in that case we will advise you before the excursion starts to get your money refunded instead. We recommend to book more than one day during high season!

5.00We did the Northern lights chase on 12 Feb 2026 with Andreas and the tour was outstanding. Andreas was very informative, knowledgeable and passionate about the lights. He had a scientific approach about finding the lights and that got us the most amazing Northern lights sightings. Thank you Andreas. This was the best tour we had !! We made 4-5 different stops and the last stop was the most priceless as we saw the lights colours more vividly in the sky. Tripods were available and handy for taking photos. The marshmallows by the fire with cake and hot chocolate warmed us up. Keep it up!!!

5.00I want to thank our knut guide for his kindness and professionalism. We saw him driving very fast to get us out of Tromsø to see the aurora that had begun. Great show then they disappeared. Our guide said to wait a few hours and in the meantime we were invited to a hut with wood fire to warm up. Hot chocolate or whatever. Homemade cake chamallow. We waited but the dawn did not come back but no big deal the beginning of the evening was beautiful. Thank you.

5.00This tour was very well run and organized. Right away they were welcoming, and friendly and easy to find We really loved our tour with them and felt it was such good value for money. this tour is referred to as northern lights with authentic Norwegian charm, and it really did feel like there was such Norwegian charm to it. Our guide Opal was so personable and interesting and had amazing stories. She added so much ‘Norwegian charm’, it really made the tour. And I don’t doubt that all of their guides are incredible. They used time on the bus wisely with an educational video about the aurora that was interesting and easy to follow. If the weather is favorable around Tromso, having the ability to go in and out of the Lavu is really nice and helps you warm up. They had thermal suits available, tripods for cameras and phones and our guide took photos of everyone with the aurora. This is also a local family who has been running this business for years and I’m happy to know we supported a local family business. The knowledge and use of applications to determine when and how the aurora would occur felt superior- I really felt like they had such a great grasp on when the Aurora was going to show I think most northern lights tours reviews are partially dependent on whether people saw the lights- so yes, we did see the lights and it was incredible and magical. but I also really felt the value and charm from this tour. It was excellent. I really can’t recommend this tour enough!

5.00My wife and I booked this tour twice to see the Northern Lights. The first time with Knut was exciting because he told us lots of stories and gave us lots of information during the bus ride. The trip took us almost to Finland because there were few Northern Lights to be seen. The second time with Opal, we were luckier and were able to marvel at the wonderful aurora borealis. We always felt well taken care of and knew that everything was being done to give us unforgettable moments.

5.00Trina, our guide was knowledgeable, fun, enthusiastic and entertaining. She made the whole evening a delight. We saw an amazing display of the northern lights and Trina helped us to take amazing photos. Can’t thank her enough!
Northern lights with Opal

5.00On a day full of cloud and snow before we were picked up we were not hopeful of getting a sighting. Then our guide Opal arrived full of positivity. Friendly and bubbly she led our small group to clear skies and strong lights within 1.5 hrs. She took portraits of everyone individually with the lights in the background. If she wasnt quite happy with the shot she kept going until it was perfect. Our tour continued in search of more clear skies and light activity but sadly no more luck. We all left happy and full of chocolate cake though. Had we not had the earlier display Opal would have continued the search and ultimately it was a group decision that considering our earlier luck and a not great forecast we were all happy and satisfied to call it a night. Highly recommend Opal great info commentary and stories the whole trip enhancing the whole experience.

5.00What can I say.... From the warm welcome at the pick-up point in the city. By recognizable guides who, in addition to a recognizable bus, also wear a jacket with company name and logo, something that others do not all have. In the bus a warm welcome with a genuine interest in its guests. During the drive to the Auroro viewing place, explanations were given about settings of both phones and cameras and a history of the Northern Lights told. Always keeping an eye out for anything to see. Likewise with us through which and was stopped to take the chance to see the Northern Lights. Once at the private viewing destination we lacked nothing. With on top a treat of mother nature with a brilliant spectacle of aurora. What made this trip complete was the endless enthusiasm of the guides, without being intrusive and always keeping an eye on the needs of the guests. So unless you like big coaches with a massive destination where you can also come by rental car, I would definitely book this company! What can I say.... From the start in Tromsø centre a very warm welcome! Easily found the bus and the tourguide, bus marked with name, tourguide wearing jackets with company name and logo! Great explaination on camera setting during drive to Aurora spotting spot. Taking time halfway the drive to get a headstart on Aurora experience and some pictures, to make sure we wouldn't miss it! Ones at the family farm, perfect facilities and just the best spot for Aurora spotting. The enthusiasm and drive of the guide's together with the respect for everybodies needs this was a great experience. I definitely would recommend booking with them!

5.00We joined Trine on this Northern Lights tour from Tromsø and had a great time. Trine was engaging and informative, and positively buzzing with contagious enthusiasm. The pickup info was easy to follow and the bus arrived bang on time. We were fortunate enough to get a spectacular display from the lights. Not only does Trine give everyone tips and advice on the best phone and/or camera set up to capture the lights yourself but she also takes professional quality pictures of you, your group, and the Aurora which are shared with your whole group to download and keep. There is down time with snacks and drinks and an opportunity to warm up around a campfire. To round things off Trine shared some stories on Norway, Tromsø, Lapland, and her own family's history. We would definitely recommend you choosing this tour over one of the alternatives..
