We pick you up in Tromsø and take you by minibus on a chase for the magical Northern lights. With the best local knowledge we will find the best area for the lights and good scenery for your pictures. To find a clear sky we will drive where we have to, even to Finland if needed. Our family ran company, Tromsø Friluftsenter, focus on small groups that gives the personal touch. Since 2004 we have given our guests adventures from our hearts. During the evening your guide will show you a movie and tell you information about the Northern lights, both the science and the folklore. We will also help you to adjust your camera settings for pictures of the northern lights, and take pictures of you with the lights for you to take home to show your family and friends. (Available for download in original size from our Flickr account). We may also visit our lavvu (our modern Sami shelter) and sit around the nice warm bonfire.(If we are within reasonable driving distance from our base camp). Occasionally the chance of a clear sky is low, and in that case we will advise you before the excursion starts to get your money refunded instead. We recommend to book more than one day during high season!

Great tour to the Northern Lights near Tromsø. Our guide Opal was very dedicated to providing an unforgettable experience for all participants. The journey was shortened by information on the formation of the Northern Lights. On site, Opal helped each individual participant set up the cameras or mobiles. There were also sufficient tripods, without which no good shots succeed. By the way, there was a small fire to warm up, hot drinks and chocolate cake. Overall a great experience, to which the very friendly and motivated tour guide has contributed to a great extent. Would always recommend and gladly book again.

I want to thank Opal so much for a wonderful tour. We went on a night where the weather said 100% cloud cover & lots of people said it would be impossible to see the lights, however Opal took us to a beautiful spot and the lights we saw were incredible. She is very knowledgable, provides great cake and took some beautiful pictures. Cannot recommend enough.

Having procrastinated on taking an aurora hunt (because the weather was the archetype of north Norwegian cloud and snowfall I called Trine who assured me that we would see some kind of activity so we (my wife and I booked) Absolutely not one regret.. Trine turned out to be one brilliant bundle of professionalism, good and healthy humour, approachability and exuded positivity.. We headed south and further inland (thanks to Trine and Cnut’s knowledge of how to find the perfect place) accompanied by a short video (which had some interesting little facts and stories) and Trine’s local legend knowledge. Something reiterated repeatedly by Trine - don’t expect to see what you do on the tv. So we lowered our expectations and enjoyed the company. Unfortunately for Trine but fortunately for us, as soon as we touched down at our perfect spot for star watching, what ensued was a light show better than we had even hoped for! Dancing lights, the sky split with whole arches of warm and green lights, and cascading, waterfalls of atoms colouring the air .. absolutely fantastic and humbling. Once the light show dimmed we were treated with cups of warm chocolate, coffee, tea and bouillon followed by delicious chocolate cake and finished with a warming fire to help us recover our extremities. Having said all this, it would not have been so magical without Trine and her company.. book with this one and regret nothing, you’re getting the best in class.

Knut was AMAZING he was so knowledgeable and friendly. He had a wealth of experience being a local and knew some amazing spots. We got so lucky and saw an amazing show of lights! I will be back next year and I will be booking with Knut again!

BS! Informed we were going to Finland to see lights but several hrs later informed it was snowing there… so no go. Drove around to stand in the cold at various locations with nothing to see. Opal tried to convince people that were seeing the lights… what a joke/scam. Advertised drinks & food included, chocolate cake was the food. Driver/ Guide handheld use of cellphone while driving in snow/ice is dangerous, irresponsible and can be fatal. Recommended by Marriott Airport Moxy; should have considered the source. Do not waste your time or money with this group who are more expensive than many other options and not worth a NOK.
Knut made it happen despite all the snow and cloud cover!

We had the most incredible experience with Knut. The weather conditions weren’t looking promising with plenty of cloud cover but Knut was determined to “chase the clear skies” and found us two spots where memories were made! We got much needed hot choc and delicious choc cake at the first spot, where we stayed the longest - Knut pulled out chairs and built a cosy fire for us to toast marshmallows, while we all had our phones/cameras set up on tripods (provided by Knut) grabbing pics as and when she decided to dance. But it was on the way home where he intentionally detoured and stopped off on the side of a road where we saw the most spectacular display of aurora dancing all around and above us. We were with our 9 year old son (who wants to grow up like Knut and chase the clear skies for the aurora) - Knut was so wonderful with him, definitely recommended for families - we befriended another family on the trip too. I am convinced we would not have seen that spectacular show if we weren’t with Northern Norwegian Charm, it was so snowy and impossible to see a few metres in front of us at times but Knut made it happen! Thank you, we are already planning a week long trip next year to do this excursion multiple times.

Bend over backwards on a Cloudy night to get views of the northern lights. We actually drove for 2 hours in sleet and snow to the Finland border. We did get pictures and then the driver hands out hot chocolate or coffee with chocolate cake. Well impressed

Great trip to find the Northen Lights. Family run business who take every step to find the lights on your trip - highly coordinate with other guides. Trina was an excellent guide and driver. We had a really great time and were lucky with a long, spectacular display between the blizzards!
Amazing company, went above and beyond for us to see the lights!

Highly recommend! We were really lucky to have chosen Norwegian Charm for our northern lights excursion out of the many available. We were in the great hands of Knut. Before we started the chase, Knut was very honest with the group and said it would be 50/50 whether we saw the lights due to extremely overcast conditions. As a result of the odds he offered everybody the chance for a refund before we took off which we thought was very fair. Despite the conditions Knut went above and beyond and he managed to find a break in the clouds in the south island for just long enough so we could all see the lights and it was amazing. He was a brilliant host, made everybody feel welcome and was very informative. Would recommend to anyone wanting to see the lights, I think your best chances are with this company.

Trine was an excellent guide — engaging, cheerful and full of knowledge and stories about the local area. She was always more than willing to take professional grade pictures of people under the lights and the family farm is exceptionally beautiful, especially on a night with a full moon. We saw a full display of the aurora and it was jaw dropping — highly recommended. Thank you for a wonderful experience!
