Step into a cozy minibus and travel with a local guide who knows these valleys and fjords by heart. We keep your group small to ensure personal attention, space to relax, and we use our camera to capture the moment when the aurora appears.

Instead of stopping at crowded viewpoints, we usually head to a private campsite, far from city lights. But we choose the tours location based on todays weather, so we will go where the chances are the best.

At our location we will make a campfire and enjoy hot chocolate or herbal tea by the fire, and taste traditional snacks and a hearty meal made from local ingredients. All while you hear stories and enjoy the northern lights dancing above!

Your evening starts at Kirkegata 2, where you meet your guide and travel into the quiet valleys and fjords surrounding Tromsø. Using local knowledge and updated forecasts, we head toward the areas with the best chance of clear skies, sometimes close to the Finnish border. Along the way, your guide shares stories about Sámi traditions and Arctic life. The journey is relaxed and personal, giving you time to enjoy the landscape as we leave the city lights behind. When we find the right spot, we set up a small camp far from crowds and light pollution. A bonfire is lit, and you can enjoy hot chocolate or herbal tea, traditional snacks, and a warm meal made from local ingredients. The campfire creates a warm and natural atmosphere while we watch the sky and wait for the aurora to appear. Your guide helps with photography and captures pictures for you throughout the night. When the experience comes to an end, we return to Tromsø and drop you off at your hotel.

We decided to celebrate 10 years of marriage with a trip to Tromsø to see the Northern Lights, which have captured my imagination since childhood. Our trip coincided with what may end up being the warmest polar night in recorded history, and while it was nice to know we wouldn't freeze, we came here looking for an Arctic experience. We were a little nervous about spending money for a tour that might just show us clouds and rain. I still think it's a reasonable concern, as conditions can be difficult to predict. The offer of a half-off reschedule, on an experience that was already a good price compared to other options, made it an easier decision. The pickup spot is in front of the Tromsø Tourist Shop, and it's a little confusing, as it's used by most of the tours: we nearly left with two extra couples in the van! Despite the brief confusion, we left the city on time with a total of two guides and ten tourists. They took us inland seeking clear skies, rather than to their usual spot on the coast, and along the way they explained that all the guides communicate with each other in a collective effort to get everyone a good experience. Combine that with modern forecasts, and an experienced guide can bring you to the best possible conditions, rather than just hoping for good weather. These are experienced guides. They're both locals who enjoy sharing their home with folks from all over the world, and their attitude is infectious. They work hard to ensure everyone has a good time, from finding the right spot, to making sure everyone's warm enough. They set a cheerful and optimistic mood right away, as we drove about two hours south and east into the mountains. The show had already started by the time we got out of the van, and it did not stop. We were out there for about two hours, and I would happily have stayed another two, though it was dying down as we left. How to describe what we saw? Cameras don't "see" things the same as the human eye, and that seems to be especially true of the Lights. The green was far paler in the sky than in my camera, for example. Espen's photography skills do him credit, and he was able to succeed where I failed. He got pictures that did show the lights as I saw them, in addition to good shots of everyone in the party, provided to all of us as part of the package. If you want your own pictures, phones these days are up to the task, but if you want to just take in the show, the package includes the best of the pictures taken by the guides. But the dancing... The lights move slowly, but sometimes they move deceptively fast, and that seeming contradiction is part of the experience. At times it's hard to know where to look, because there's so much happening. There was a river of white-green light flowing above us clear across the sky, seeming to pour forth from the summit of the nearby mountain. As the night wore on, different areas would brighten, and turn into red-edged ribbons of light that rippled like the fin of an oarfish, or the cilia of a comb jelly. Other times, it looked as if figures were moving in front of the green lights in a shimmering procession, or a ribbon of light would form an irregular spiral, like the fingerprint left by some god playing with our planet like a marble. I could go on, but perhaps it's better to just say that our guides agreed that a show like that comes around maybe once a month, and I had no trouble believing them. I should also say that not all groups that night got to see what we did, and I think that's where the experience of the guides comes into play. They knew to go inland, rather than to the cloudier coast, and they had an array of possible destinations, depending on where the conditions would be best. Even if the skies are not as kind to you as they were to us, the guides come prepared with stories gathered from spending their lives in the Norwegian wilderness, under the Arctic sky. As the lights danced overhead, the campfire they set up for us kept us warm as we roasted sausages, drank cocoa, and talked with a diverse and friendly group of strangers in the freezing Norwegian night. As a nice bonus, we saw a fox on the return journey. This was everything I hoped for, and everything I feared I would miss when I arrived in town to find rain melting the snow and ice. If I had the money, I'd have been happy to do it all again the next night, even for a less spectacular show.

We got onto this tour after buying another at the tourist information centre in Tromso and paid far more than the listed price. We wished we had just booked direct. The guide was persistent in chasing a clear sky at the Finland border. We got to see the lights albeit next to the highway with can lights in nearly every photo we took.

We were recommended to Tor Jonny and Espen after our first tour had to be cancelled due to unexpected reasons. Wow, what an amazing guides and experience we had!! Tor and Espen are absolutely professional and truly passionate about their work. They’re highly skilled and very knowledgeable. Even though having to say that viewing northern light aren’t 100% guaranteed depending on the weather, Tor and Espen never gives up easily. They did all they can do in their power to make sure we get a great show of Auroras. They are well experts in choosing spots to view the lights. Unlike the usual stops by the roadside often with noise and light interruptions, they took us to a private land at Grøtfjord where we had super clear view of the sky. We had the most amazing views of the Auroras. They were very well equipped, provided us all gears that we need and made sure we are warm and comfortable throughout the tour. Tor and Espen are local Sámi. We really enjoyed sitting by the camp fire listening to their stories about Sàmi traditions and North Norwegian legends. They are best people to ask if anyone wish to know about Sàmi and Norwegian lifestyle. They also provided us with great foods and drinks including vegetarian options and traditional Norwegian food. Tor and Espen are an amazing photographers. They took care of the photographing sessions capturing the magical moments whilst we enjoyed the Lady Aurora dancing show to the fullest. They created priceless memories for us and were taking home stunning pictures of us and the northern lights. We very highly recommend this company, a must do tour company if you are looking for a great views of the northern lights. No one knows Trømso better than the locals. After an unexpected cancellation Tor was recommended to us. Tor goes out his way to ensure clear skies and gives you the best opportunity to catch the lady of the skies. Equipment is on point, Food was provided along with hot drinks and also thermal suits. Although we didn't get a full show we thoroughly enjoyed the evening and cannot wait until next year when we will book again to hopefully catch the lady in all her glory. Was a magic and memorable experience. Such a great night, great company, lots of stories about the Sami culture, legends and fire in a unique place. Was just us in that beautiful place, with fire and hot drinks. The Northern lights were dancing. Tor, the local guide knew a loooot about auroras and was super amazing, taking pictures, making sure we all were having a good time. Super recommend!

Our guide was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and truly professional. Thanks to them, we were able to see the Northern Lights. I also loved the experience of sitting around the campfire, grilling sausages, drinking hot cocoa, and listening to Sámi stories, it felt so cozy and unique. Absolutely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Tromso!

We went to see the Northern Lights and it was absolutely fantastic. The guide was a true expert and knew exactly where to go. The viewing spot was marvellous, surrounded by beautiful mountains. The food was great as well, with vegetarian options that I really appreciated. The organizers are wonderful people, and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone. Thank you again for the amazing time!

When visiting a place I try to find and do as the locals would. This small adventure was no exception. I typically don’t write reviews but feel compelled to share about this experience. From start to finish one could just tell that the hunt for the aurora would be fun. We drove a bit hearing stories about Sami culture and locations in the locale and when we arrived a small warning fire was already lit off to the side.what happened next was nothing short of spectacular. The sky lit up and danced even with a full moon. Even our guide was exuberant about the whole display. If you have the chance fun abounds!

We had an amazing, "once in a lifetime " experience with our guides. They were very professional, prompt, informative, and accommodating. We felt like we were close friends and the experience was fantastic. The van was clean and all gear was supplied. The photos were were provided were PRICELESS. This is a MUST DO when in Tromso with Artic Aurora Tours! Locals always know best and Espen and his partner are locals

Absolutely amazing experience with Arctic Aurora Tour AS, a small company run by two passionate and highly skilled guys. Supporting small businesses like theirs should be a priority, especially when they deliver such a high-quality and personal experience. I had already seen the Northern Lights when I lived in Norway, but last night was on another level. Their knowledge, choice of location, and overall care made it unforgettable. You can tell they truly love what they do. I’ll be recommending them to everyone heading to Tromsø, if you want to see the aurora the right way, go with them!
