We offer a tour for a small group to enjoy togetherness and excitement while hunting for Northern Lights in the beautiful landscapes of the Altafjord. We arrange organized guided tours since 2007 and have the knowledge about how to find the Northern Lights if the conditions are there. On our tours you normally will have 80-90 % chance of seeing this spectacular view. Each tour is different, as we focus on finding the optimal place with the greatest chance of seeing the lights. We therefore sometimes have to drive quite far to find them, while sometimes we find them in the surrounding area. Necessary driving distance decide whether we establish a camp with a fire, or whether we serve hot chocolate and snacks at one of our short stops. While enjoying the great outdoors, we will share with you local stories about Norwegian way of living, local history from the Stone Age, Sami culture, reindeer-herding, 2nd World War and the modern society in Alta. We are normally back just over midnight.

Choose Alta Havn (Alta Harbour) as your pick up place if you are coming to Alta by cruise ship. Our guide will be there looking for you at the parking place with a black minibus.

If your ship has a different time schedule than our tour, please contact us and we try to adapt to you.

We will start the tour from Alta Center with the opportunity to pass by the cathedral of the Northern Lights and to enjoy the impressing view of the landscapes in the Alta Fjord. In our way through Alta we will give you a briefing about this natural phenomenon and the conditions of the day, that leads us to the best place to enjoy them in that night.

Our guide was very professional and knew exactly where to go to see the lights. We saw quite a few during our tour. There is a lot of driving but it is necessary to get to where you can see the lights.

On time for pick up at port from a Viking Cruise. Learned a lot and saw the Northern Lights. Would have been fun even if we didn't.

You pay $200+ pp to see the northern lights. It is cloudy and you see nothing. There are no guarantees and you have spent 4 hours traversing snow and ice covered roads at significant speeds with a strange driver. Now, if this were a fair business transaction, you should be entitled to some refund. But no, this decked is stacked against the buyer because the driver is paid fully while you lose all. In good conscience I can't recommend Alta Adventures unless you are a blind person and then it obviously makes n o difference. If you are fully- sighed consider walking away. Bob

Everyone was very nice but the clouds never parted for us so we didn’t see any Northern Lights. Disappointing but the ride into the countryside was beautiful!

While we knew that there was a low chance of seeing the Northern Lights we were disappointed in the way the trip occurred. The advertisement for the excursion showed people in an open field with a fire. What we received were stops at cutoff along the road to look for the Lights. Certainly not what we expected.
No lights, but a wonderful guide!

It was snowing so we didn’t see the aurora. But our guide took us all over looking for a break in the clouds. We stopped at a an old church which was beautiful in the night light. Our guide was the owner and knowledgeable about Alta. And very hospitable! We enjoyed the tour very much even though we didn’t see the lights.
Sometimes the force is not with you.

My suggestion is check the weather and an aurora app several days ahead & use the option to cancel 24hrs ahead if weather is not promising. The vendor will go no matter what and you’ll have a drive through the countryside & a stop at his house for a quick snack around the fire. I get it - their philosophy is looking for chance. The guides/ owner are pleasant but that’s not the experience you’re buying and heavy clouds and snow don’t allow seeing the lights that of course may or may not appear. It’s on you to mitigate the odds.

I just had my first night out of a 3-day Northern Lights safari in Alta and all I can say is wow. On the first night alone, the Aurora Borealis gave us one of the most spectacular light shows I’ve ever seen — ribbons of green, pink, and purple dancing across the sky. It was absolutely unforgettable. Our guide was outstanding: knowledgeable, passionate, and patient. He knew exactly where to go for the best viewing conditions and shared fascinating insights about the science and history of the aurora. I also appreciated the warm gear, hot drinks, and his support in helping us capture amazing photos — I now have images that I’ll keep for the rest of my life. If you’re coming to Northern Norway and want a real Northern Lights experience, I highly recommend this tour. It surpassed all expectations.
