We offer a tour for a small group to enjoy togetherness and excitement while hunting for Northern Lights in the beautiful landscapes of the Altafjord. We arrange organized guided tours since 2007 and have the knowledge about how to find the Northern Lights if the conditions are there. On our tours you normally will have 80-90 % chance of seeing this spectacular view. Each tour is different, as we focus on finding the optimal place with the greatest chance of seeing the lights. We therefore sometimes have to drive quite far to find them, while sometimes we find them in the surrounding area. Necessary driving distance decide whether we establish a camp with a fire, or whether we serve hot chocolate and snacks at one of our short stops. While enjoying the great outdoors, we will share with you local stories about Norwegian way of living, local history from the Stone Age, Sami culture, reindeer-herding, 2nd World War and the modern society in Alta. We are normally back just over midnight.

Our guide , Roger was excellent and worked hard to find a spot to find the lights on a cloudy night. Excellent local knowledge too. Would heartily recommend.

Seeing the northern lights is always a game of luck. Booking the right night, having a clear enough sky, and the right kp. However, most important is knowing the spots to go with minimal light pollution and that's where a tour is vital. Steven took us to 4 spots; no lights at the first, the second was good (barely visible naked eye, ok photos), the third was amazing (picture), and by the fourth the snow clouds had rolled in. Just to give you a sense of the luck involved, and checking out different spots at different times. This tour was fantastic with affable Steven! He was willing to come out just for a couple with late notice, and has a true passion for chasing the lights. Transport was a minivan; not a high volume minibus. It was nice and intimate and less commercial than other tours we've done; also not a ton of time on the road to get to the spots like we had in Tromso. Extra cold weather gear and boots are provided (take the boots! some of the snow was very deep). We got lucky, but some girls from the night before did not. However, we ran into them because Steven mapped the spots to check out on their own on other nights. We went to Alta to see the lights, but almost didn't try on our last night before flying out early AM because the predicted kp wasn't the best and there were some clouds. But as the evening evolved things improved, I convinced my wife, and they told me there was a decent chance. Really glad we pushed through, did this tour, and that Steven was willing to accommodate on what would otherwise have been a night off! I was able to get some half-decent shots with just an iPhone and a cheap travel phone tripod (with remote). Steven took some pictures for/of us as well. Worth every penny!

Just got back to the ship feeling ripped off. In the lead up to our tour Alta experienced overcast conditions with some snow; conditions we were told not favourable to viewing the northern lights. To our surprise following a couple of hours driving around and stopping at locations with stars in the sky and receiving confidence building comments from our tour guide (oh and a waste of time photo stop at the Alta cathedral) no lights were seen. It was also announced by the driver (not the tour guide) that “this will be our last stop, we’ll be heading back to the ship as the driver had to start work at 05.00 and was heard stating this to the tour guide. A very disappointing experience which left us feeling that we had been conned.

Our guide, Sebastian went above and beyond in terms of chasing the northern lights. Although the weather was quite a bit challenging (cloudy everywhere) but we managed to have a sneak peek of this green lady. We really appreciate our guide’s effort in finding clear sky amidst cloudy forecast everywhere

An excellent search for the Northern Lights in a minibus led by Steve. He was on time for the pick up, and friendly and engaging throughout. He knew exactly where to go for the dark sky searching for gaps in the clouds. Not only did we see them, we had hot chocolate and pastries as well!! Thanks Steve.

The tour was in Search of northern Lights. Before we left it was snowing and total cloud cover. It never really got better. Yet the tour operator took us out probably knowing full well we would see no lights. This should have been cancelled and our money returned.

I booked through Get Your Guide where the booking conditions stated “may be cancelled in the event of dangerous driving conditions or severe weather”. It did not specify who made the decision about these - the operator or the customer. Having had 4 hours of continuous snow today on top of compacted ice and overnight temps of minus 17, I wrote to the operator to explain that I felt the driving conditions were dangerous. My hotel is 30 minutes away from Alta and none of the local roads have been cleared. They refused any kind of refund and said that they thought the conditions were fine. I expect they know there will be no northern lights tonight due to the snow but want to keep my £320 anyway. Buyers beware! The booking conditions are deliberately ambiguous.

The tour is amazing. Exceeded all our expectations. We saw the dancing sky. Thank you very much to Steven, Diamela and everyone involved in organizing this tour. The atmosphere is magical. By the fire with a cup of hot chocolate, a small husky on his hands, and Aurora over his head. It's unforgettable. I recommend this tour. WILD.

We had a really fun and personal experience going on the tour with Steve. Even though the weather was challenging, he had a good plan and we were able to find the lights and learn about the area!
