The Major War Criminals Trial was held before the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg from November 20, 1945 to October 1, 1946. As a result of this trial, Courtroom 600 of the Nuremberg Palace of Justice gained worldwide notoriety. From 1946 to 1949, 12 "Subsequent Trials" were held in the same courtroom before exclusively U. S. American military tribunals. .
Still to this day, in the southeast corner of Nuremberg, the remains of structures located on the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds impress visitors with their immense proportions and stand as vivid testimony to the megalomania of the National Socialist regime. This area of 4 square miles was intended to be an impressive backdrop for the Nazi party rallies and serve to demonstrate their power not only to Germany, but to the entire world.

Documentation Center Nazi Party Rally Grounds
The Nazi Party Rally Grounds were called the area in the southeast of Nuremberg, where the Nazi Party rallies of the NSDAP took place from 1933 to 1938. The overall design for the design of the site came from Albert Speer in the basic concept and from Walter Brugmann in detail, who also managed the implementation. It covers a total area of over 16.5 km².

We visited Courtroom 600 13 years ago but this time we took family. We were fortunate to have a cruise-ship arranged tour guide who was also a history teacher and member of a local history society. He was amazing and led our small group through every aspect of the trials. I felt like I was attending a graduate-level class on the Nuremberg Trials. It made me tingle to gaze on this scene and consider what happened here. Though only a few Nazis were actually tried, the world saw that there can be consequences for evil leaders and military brass. Like a funeral acting as an inflection point to allow those who are grieving to start to move on... the Trials served as an inflection point in post WWII world recovery.

Rob was a great guide: knowledgeable, engaging and patient. He welcomed questions and gave a great tour. We learned so much! We appreciated that we could sit in the van and listen to him, then walk to the sites. ..not just stand and walk for 4 hours.

This tour is not recommended. Ostensibly conducted in English, we all agreed that the narration was almost impossible to understand (the guide's Italian accent was almost impenetrable, and frequent mispronunciations made things worse) The guide's knowledge of the 'history' he purported to relate was poor: this led to disputes with members of the tour group who often knew better than he did. His fairly aggressive manner left little room for dissent: at one point he said we thought he was lying!! As an example of an outrageous claim he insisted on as truth was that Paul Hindenburg 'disappeared', or - at the very least one could be certain what had happened to him. Of course this is incorrect: Hindenburg passed away at the grand age of 86 due to cancer. His remains are interred at Marburg.

Our tour guide was very informative. We visited the Nazi rallying areas as well as the courtroom. The courtroom includes an audio tour which we did. Very well done.
