As Georgian food culture slowly emerges from its Soviet-era deep freeze, Tbilisi’s chefs are looking beyond their country’s borders while also reviving and safeguarding Georgia’s unique culinary traditions. The open spirit of the Silk Road is back in town, and on this epic day of eating, we’ll get a taste of what it’s all about.
Our day begins where Tbilisi got its start millennia ago, by the natural hot springs in the oldest part of the city. Here, a mosque, synagogue and Georgian Orthodox cathedral provide a panorama that tells much about the city’s diversity and its history as an important center of trade and culture and a key stop along the ancient Silk Road. Tbilisi’s strategic location made it a desirable place to occupy, and there’s no shortage of conquerors that passed through: Romans, Byzantines, Mongols, Khazars, Arabs, Persians, Ottomans, Russians and, finally, the Soviets.

Sioni Cathedral Church
We will make our way to a church-run shop selling products straight from Orthodox monasteries – long-time bastions of artisanal production – here we will sample some stunning treats

5.00Fantastic tour with the fantastic guide, Crystal 7 stops in total, lots of food and some wine at the end Was a brilliant way to get to know the best food from unique places, Crystal helped change my mind on some of my tastes She is very passionate about both the food and the country so was the perfect host for a tour like this If you’re wanting to try a variety of unique and local cuisines and also get to know the history of the restaurants and the city, I highly recommend the tour

The insights provided on this tour not only in terms of the culinary scene, but also into the culture and the current state of affairs in Tbilisi resulted in a fun, information and delicious tour. The food was amazing as was the company of the other participants. Well worth it!

1.00Tours I've done in Spain and Portugal have been great. I cancelled Georgia during the pandemic. The administration staff have been impossible to deal with. No free cancellation. Cancellation has cost me my deposit to date. Not great customer service.

5.00This was one of the best food tours me and my wife have been on! Maka comprehensively knew both about not just about the individual dishes, but also the different varieties. On top of this, she is a knowledgeable historian, and we got to learn so much about Georgian history and culture, while also being completely satisfied by the end of our many courses. Absolutely recommend!

5.00The tour was amazing. The guide was very informative about the Georgian cuisine, Georgian history, Georgian politics and Georgian culture. The choice of food was wonderful, a variety of Georgian foods to sample from starters, to mains to, of course, the dumplings along with Georgian wine. A wonderful day of feasting and learning!!
