Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine

Start your tour at Fushimi Inari Taisha, the head shrine of over 30,000 Inari shrines in Japan. Spend an hour exploring this iconic site, known for its thousands of striking vermilion torii gates. These gates form a seemingly-endless path which you can wander through on your visit. Originally dedicated to the gods of agriculture, Fushimi Inari is not just a spiritual center but also a symbol of breathtaking beauty and cultural significance.

Kiyomizu-dera Temple

At Kiyomizu-dera, one of the most iconic temples in Japan, walk across the impressive wooden stage, which juts out from the hillside and was constructed without the use of a single nail. The temple boasts a wide view overlooking Kyoto and the beautiful surrounding nature. You can also drink from one of the three rejuvenating streams of Otowa Waterfall, said to bring success, love, and longevity.

This was a great all day tour, packed full of sight seeing and lots of walking. In the heat it can be a bit much, we travelled in 38 degree weather, so bear that in mind if you aren’t the fittest person. Definitely get the lunch included! The tour guide was great and the bus was clean and cool.

Visiting Kyoto in July was both challenging and rewarding. The summer heat was intense, making every step feel heavier—but the city’s timeless beauty made up for it. From historic temples and quiet shrines to the scent of incense lingering in the air, Kyoto felt like stepping into a living postcard. The highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest. Towering stalks surrounded us in a sea of green, offering a cool, peaceful escape from the heat. The atmosphere was serene and almost otherworldly. Despite the humidity, Kyoto left a lasting impression with its blend of nature, culture, and spirituality. I’d gladly return—just maybe during a cooler season next time. Still, a trip worth taking. Refrain in visiting on July. It’s hot.

The sites visited were interesting. The guide (Maria) was very available and her explanations very complete. The meal, on the other hand, was more average (especially when tofu is not particularly appreciated).
