Your tours are not a dry history lecture or a rushed "greatest hits" photo op, your walking tour is designed to feel like a day out with a local friend who knows all the city's secrets. We bridge the gap between Samurai legends and modern subcultures, taking you from the massive fortifications of Osaka Castle to the retro thrift shops of Amemura and the neon heart of Dotonbori.
With small groups, we avoid the crowds, allowing for real, personal conversation and a flexible pace. Your guides are professional storytellers who live and breathe this city, ensuring you don't just see the sights, you understand the humour, the history, and the heart of Japan’s most vibrant city.

Osaka Castle
We’ll start at the legendary Osaka Castle, a fortress that has stood at the center of Japan’s most dramatic power struggles. As we walk the park’s massive grounds, you’ll hear the epic story of the Sengoku era—a time of ruthless warlords and shifting alliances that culminated in a year-long siege for control of the nation. We’ll explore the towering stone fortifications and deep moats while diving into the real life of the Samurai. You’ll learn how these warriors fought, the codes they lived by, and the incredible engineering used to build an “invincible” stronghold. Between the history and the views, there are always local food stalls nearby if you’re looking to grab a quick, authentic snack. It’s the perfect blend of samurai legends, beautiful park strolls, and a first-hand look at the soul of old Japan.
Americamura
After exploring the castle, we’ll dive into Amermura (America Town). We’ll wander through eclectic thrift shops and uncover fascinating "time capsules" from 1970s Japan, including hidden remnants of the legendary 1970 World Expo. We’ll even stop by a vintage pinball museum for a blast of retro fun. From there, we hit the iconic Dotonbori canal to bridge the gap between ancient history and modern neon. You’ll learn how this waterway transformed from a 17th-century merchant project into Japan's most famous food destination. Along the way, we’ll teach you some essential local Osaka slang so you can talk like a true "Osakan" while we sample the city's best street food. It’s a fast-paced journey through retro vibes, subcultures, and the bustling heart of downtown.

Well worth the price. We saw sooo much of osaka my feet needed a massage at end of day. Would not change a thing about tour except maybe stop for coffee in the middle of tour instead of beginning. The tour and walk around Shogun palace was probably the highlight with Tommy's knowledge of shogun, samarai history. Wish we were there a little later for cherry blossoms but there were the faithful plum blossoms. It added color to photos. The Dotonbori area was exciting with all the activity going on. Highly recommend going on tour with Tommy!!

I did this tour with my 18 year old at the end of December 2025 and we loved it. Tommy was a brilliant guide! The tour was very well structured and led. Tommy talked about history, culture, shared quirky stories and facts about Osaka and places we visited, all delivered with good sense of humour. We explored hidden streets and sites, went through the coolest 2nd street shop, enjoyed the yummiest takoyaki, and everyone in our small mixed-age group stayed engaged , even the fussy teenagers! This was hands down the best walking tour of our trip to Japan (and we went to many…)We recommended it to other travellers we met along the way, and they raved about it too. Great insights, fantastic food and travel tips after the tour, perfect pacing — highly recommend Tommy and his tour company. Ōkini Tommy! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The day tour with Tommy was amazing. We went for four hours and it was the perfect length for a tour. We saw the beautiful Osaka Castle, Tommy bought me a lovely coffee, and then took a train into the middle of Namba and walked around for a few hours We had snacks too! For the price we got a lot more than we were expecting, thank you so much and I will be sending all my friends your way.

Thanks Tommy. We really enjoyed our tour showing us the castle and the wonderful grounds around the castle. Tommy has a great knowledge of the Japanese traditions and also has the great aussie humour to add a twist. He opened our eyes to the very different , more relaxed side of Japan ..Osaka is such a fun and vibrant city . Such a welcoming vibe with every encounter . Tommy then took us via some really funky shopping and then onto the food glorious food.... explaining the Japanese cultures along the way . Had a great time. Definitely coming back to Osaka again. The only downside was .... we were on a cruise and only had one day here. 🇯🇵

I travel to Osaka often for business and I like to jump on different tours. It's a great way to meet likeminded travelers and learn some interesting stuff along the way. This time I booked this tour with Tommy and we had a blast. He's the kind of guy you will probably want to come back and have a beer with. We explored the city and ate some Takoyaki, I've had it many times before but it was special with a new group of people. I would absolutely recommend this tour.

The tour took us to several must-see spots around Osaka, and thanks to Thomas we got to experience everything from delicious local street food to more refined Japanese cuisine. Highly recommended!
