Only at The Mayan can you learn authentic Garifuna drumming hands-on with a nationally celebrated master drummer. Real Garifuna culture lives on the mainland and southern cayes, so genuine Primero, Segunda drums and hand-crafted Dangriga maracas almost never reach Ambergris Caye — making this the rarest cultural experience on the island.
Set beneath the largest Sacred Ceiba tree on Ambergris Caye (sacred to both Maya and Garifuna), in our overwater palapa at sunset, you play the actual ancestral instruments while the Caribbean breeze carries every beat.

5.00Our family of 6 adults and 4 kids (14,12,7,5) wanted a unique cultural experience. The venue is very unique out on Lina Point- it added to the experience. We loved learning about the culture and history of the Garifuna people. The instructor was so patient and kind and you could tell his passion for drumming and his people through his enthusiastic presentation. We had a wonderful time!

5.00Rahim was an informative instructor. He explained the history of the Garifuna people, the importance of spirituality and drumming, and he was a fun teacher! We thoroughly enjoyed his patience with us and how he made it interactive and collaborative! ! I’d highly recommend it as we also liked that it was an intimate class of 5!
