Enjoy a full-day trip to the Pacaya Volcano from Antigua Guatemala and discover the beauty of this natural gem! Towering over 8,000 feet (2,438 meters) above sea level, Pacaya is considered Guatemala's most active volcano. After pickup from your Antigua Guatemala hotel, head southeast about 15 miles (25 km) to the base of Pacaya, where you’ll embark on a 2.5-hour hike up the volcano with your expert guide. Enjoy a mild walk to a viewing spot at the lagoon of Calderas and take in panoramic views of the Agua, Fuego and Acatenango volcanoes. Once you arrive at a plateau along the trail, marvel at spectacular views of the Guatemala landscape and see the main crater of the volcano. To ensure your safety, you won’t be able to visit the crater, but you will get an amazing view of red-hot lava flowing and steam baths created by the heat of Pacaya. Take a break and relax here as you take in more scenic views before hiking back to the base of the volcano.

We really enjoyed the trip. The local guide knew a lot about volcanism and plants. The hike was strict but pleasant. Unfortunately, the view of the other volcanoes was not so good because of the many clouds.

Excellent tour. Quite strenuous and steep climb, but worth the effort. Pacaya volcano and the views are terrific. Luis Pedro Larios is an excellent guide, perfectly bilingual and well informed. Don't be bashful about hiring a horse if it's too strenuous.

Do this trip! Seeing lava flows, warming marshmallows over steam vents, fun hiking. Great guides too. The transport pickup from Antigua worked well.

Luis, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable. We really enjoyed this trip, We learned a lot about Guatemalan landscapes. He was very patient with us and kept safe at all time. Thank you Luis for a great experience and trip!

Our guide didn’t speak much English, which was disappointing, considering that we paid for that. Feels like we missed out on a lot of information.

We were scammed into paying more for a tour that cost less than $30 a person. Do not recommend this hike as it is the same as all the other tours you will get for way less. Their customer service did nothing to resolve this issue.

My husband was under the weather so even though we would normally hike up, the horse got him through the tour. It’s about a 1 ½ hour drive to and from the volcano base and then an 1 ½ to climb on horse. It has completely unique views of the surrounding volcanoes and is so beautiful. The horses are so calm and my handler was Mariela and very kind. $40 per horse up and down. There is a lava gift shop at the top which you can pay with Q or US dollars. Reasonably priced items too. It is totally unique and I really enjoyed.

We had a great experience. Gustavo (our driver) and Luis (our guide) were very nice and informative. They were definitely storytellers and explained a lot of what we saw through the drive and the hike up Pacaya Volcano. The hike itself was challenging but not too tough. We took breaks throughout to admire the views anyways so it was manageable. The whole experience was very pleasant and memorable. We got to see the three volcanos surrounding Antigua and even see Fuego erupting. I would definitely recommend it.

Great excursion to Pacaya volcano. Guide and driver were great, attentive and very punctual. We were able to Climb with different abilities with a 12 people group.

This experience was amazing. Our driver Gustavo, picked us up at our hotel. His conversation on the drive was friendly and informative. My family and I were able to rent a horse for our daughter for 200Q. Our guide Aries was kind, patient, sweet and informative. The walk up to volcano Pacaya was about an hour and so beautiful. We were able to enjoy the lava store and buy beautiful earrings and necklaces made from the volcanic rocks. It is a must see and definitely buy! Pizza Pacaya was delicious, 400 Q for a loaded pizza. For dessert we roasted marshmallows Yum Yum! This is one experience is a must; I highly recommend!
