The vanishing craft of creating fish traps is kept alive by a handful of elderly workers, who expertly weave bamboo and other materials into intricate traps. Against the backdrop of an old, weathered house, the scene is one of tradition and timelessness. It's a beautiful reminder of the importance of preserving cultural practices and the wisdom of our elders. The striking visual contrast of the aged workers' hands deftly weaving the traps with the aged walls of the house creates an atmosphere that is both nostalgic and inspiring. This experience, focused heavily on the incredible craft village of Hanoi, exceeded every single expectation we had. The entire operation was flawlessly managed from start to finish, setting a gold standard for photographic expeditions. The level of organization and professionalism demonstrated by the Momentlives team was truly world-class. The logistics were ironed out perfectly, allowing us to spend maximum time behind the lens and zero time worrying about transport, access, or scheduling. We managed to capture so much of Hanoi's craft village. The places chosen were absolute gems. The photographic subjects were genuinely priceless, offering authentic and visually stunning opportunities. A special and necessary commendation must go to our leader, Son Trieu. Son's leadership, deep local knowledge, and keen eye for perfect compositions were invaluable. He not only guided us to breathtaking spots but also provided thoughtful technical advice tailored to each moment, significantly enhancing our ability to create powerful images. Momentlives provides a premium, deeply insightful, and expertly led photo journey. Highly, highly recommended.

If you want the best photos in your portfolio, look no further. Mike guidance and relationship with locals will give you the most authentic experience for shooting portraits and will help you with composition technique and lighting. I have learned so much from this workshop that my photography has 10x since then. I’d encourage you to pick this village because of the disappearing craft, it is time to shoot now or never!

This was one of my favorite days in Vietnam; it was a fantastic photo tour. Son and James provided us with a lot of information while we walked around the village where we got a glimpse into the lives of the local villagers and their craft. We were invited into people's homes and Son translated questions/answers so we were able to have conversations with the local people and learn about their stories. Obviously the photography portion was fantastic; Son helped us with composition, lighting, and finding props to enhance the scene. I never felt rushed, you can take your time to compose and experiment with different shot opportunities. But my favorite memories are the stories from the local people.

We had a wonderful trip with James, visiting a fish trap village, pottery making village, and rice paper village. We started with an early morning pick up, crossing a river on a ferry in the dark and walking around the village as it woke up. James was very knowledgeable, and village people were incredibly welcoming and kind. The photo opportunities just jumped out at us at each village! We had a wonderful experience. I would certainly encourage you to talk in advance with the leader so that you can customize your experience as we did.

I had a very enjoyable experience with Momentlives Photography Tours. From the first moment I contacted Son, the founder, I could tell that his deep knowledge and passion for Vietnam’s culture and traditions would make this an extraordinary journey. As a photographer, I was particularly interested in capturing traditional crafts and authentic daily life. Son arranged a half-day tour to two fascinating villages near Hanoi—one where bamboo fish traps are still made by hand and another where large traditional pots are used to ferment soy sauce. It was amazing to see these traditional processes up close, and Son provided valuable insights into the history and cultural significance of these crafts. His connection with the local communities allowed for a more immersive experience, something that would have been difficult to arrange on my own. Beyond the guided tours, Son was also incredibly helpful in providing recommendations and advice for my independent travels throughout Vietnam. His insights helped me plan my itinerary more effectively, ensuring that I could explore the country's most photogenic and culturally rich locations. The highlight of my experience was a five-day journey to Hà Giang, where I traveled through breathtaking landscapes and remote villages. Son’s expertise in the region was evident as he introduced me to various ethnic minority communities and shared fascinating stories about their traditions, clothing, and way of life. From traditional weaving workshops to picturesque mountain villages, every stop on this journey offered a deeper understanding of Vietnam’s diverse cultural heritage. Throughout the trip, I truly appreciated Son’s dedication to responsible tourism and his respect for local traditions. His ability to connect with people, combined with his deep cultural knowledge, made this an unforgettable experience—not just as a photographer, but as a traveler wanting to learn more about Vietnam. If you are looking for a professional, knowledgeable, and passionate photography guide, I highly recommend Momentlives Photography Tours. Whether you are an experienced photographer or just someone who loves cultural exploration, this is an experience you won’t forget. Thank you, Son, for an amazing journey!

We highly recommend this tour, as you will not only get to take excellent photos, but also meet and spend some time with local people and get a taste of what life in the countryside near Hanoi is really like.

Words can't fully express my gratitude. This experience was nothing short of wonderful, and our guide was absolutely exceptional. I struggle to find the right words to truly praise him for the incredible job he did. I sincerely hope to return to Vietnam next year and have the chance to book more tours with your company. This journey has been truly eye-opening, and for that, I am deeply thankful. Thank you once again, and I wish you all the best. I will be recommending your company to everyone I know!

Two years ago, I embarked on a memorable half-day tour with Momentlives Tours, and it left such a lasting impression that I was eager to return. This time, I explored the villages where they produce Fish Traps and Soy Sauce, both unique locations offering an intimate glimpse into local handicrafts. Just like my previous trip with Mike and the team, everything was flawlessly organized, from the highly responsive initial communication to the seamless hotel drop-off at the end of the tour. A huge thanks to Mike and James for yet another fantastic experience - and for helping me capture so many incredible photos! 👍😁
