My family had a wonderful time staying at the Ferrara VRBO in Raito, during April break. The apartment was spotless & had everything we needed for our stay. We cooked several evenings, and the host, Vincenzo, provided various restaurant recommendations. We had a great meal at New Garden in Albori, just a few minutes walk in the next village. The views from the apartment & its 2 terraces were stunning, we were truly spoiled by the location. The local shops in Raito were perfect for hiking lunches, wine, & breakfast. The town overall was very friendly, & we quickly felt like we were welcomed. The parking was a 10 minute walk away, but a very pleasant walk with stunning views of the Amalfi coast. We parked our car with Massimo, another friendly local, and arranged by Vincenzo! It was $120 for 8 nights. We walked to the beach twice. It takes about 30 minutes down many steps. We walked back once, & took a Piaggio, Ape Calessino (aka Tuktuk) another time. So much fun for €20! I would recommend this apartment for anyone wanting to experience an authentic Italian village at the East of the Amalfi coast. There’s great access to fast roads to get you to Pompeii, Herculaneum, Mt Vesuvius, & Matera. Mt Vesuvius recommendation Mt Vesuvius with Mario was an adventurous day. He’s a hiking guide, aware of how mountain weather can change fast, & also extremely knowledgeable of Mt Vesuvius & its history. He was very friendly & answered questions, no matter how many our group asked. He showed us the crater from the 70AD eruption, the lava flow from 1944, & today’s smaller crater. We wore shorts, but were pleased we’d packed trousers as they protected us from the lava grit that was being stirred up by the wind. Fabulous visit to the most dangerous volcano in the world. Mt Vesuvius recommendation Sylvia was our guide around Pompeii. She was extremely knowledgeable, informative, & funny. Wearing the headsets was perfect as you could hear the details she was sharing all the time. Sylvia pointed out small details that no doubt we’d have missed without her. The man with the ‘longer quality’, the tiny white stones that helped light the path at night, details on frescos, & different brick work used to build & restore. Visiting Pompeii has been a long time coming for my family, & being guided around by Sylvia added to the experience.

A good comprehensive tour of Pompeii. It is sufficient as there is much more to see but unable due to time. Fascinating glimpse into life in Pompeii and the tragedy of the devastating eruption. Susanna, the guide, is kind and knowledgeable. Enjoyed her presentation. For the climb of Mt. Vesuvius, it is spectacular offering stunning views on a clear day. Mario lead our group, and he is wonderful. Kind, funny and knowledgeable. And he allows the group to take its time ascending the volcano stopping as needed to rest. The hiking required is approximately 40 mins. It is challenging but doable with frequent stops to ease sore knees. Be sure to ask for Mario!

This was an excellent way to experience both Pompei and Mount Vesuvius in a day. Enzo was our archeological guide in the morning and he was magnificent. He gave us much needed context to fully appreciate the site. Mario was our hiking guide in the afternoon and on the 30 minute ride to the trailhead he provided the history and science behind Vesuvius and other volcanoes in the area. We did experience heavy fog at the start of the hike that limited visibility, but it cleared up towards the top. Overall, it was an amazing experience made even better by the two guides!

We missed the first part of the tour in Pompeii due to our difficulties with public transit getting there. The second part in Herculaneum was fantastic. Vincenzo was a great guide!

The tour organizers were less than helpful. Our trip to Mount Vesuvius was cancelled the day before.
