Your private local licensed Pompeii guide will take you on a fascinating tour through this once thriving empire of nearly 20,000 inhabitants that was completely covered in 30 feet of volcanic ash.
You will be guided in the baths, villas, theatres and wrestling ground for about three hours.
This private tour includes the visit to the Villa of the Mysteries.
This wonderful Villa is one of the greatest archeological discoveries of the past century named for the paintings in one room of the residence. This space may have been a triclinium, and is decorated with very fine frescoes. Although the actual subject of the frescoes is hotly debated, the most common interpretation of the images is scenes of the initiation of a woman into a special cult of Dionysus, a mystery cult that required specific rites and rituals to become a member.

She was incredibly knowledgeable and brought the ancient city to life with her engaging stories and detailed insights into daily life back then. The tour was both informative and enjoyable. 5.00Roberta, the archaeologist who met us there, was absolutely fantastic. Her knowledge and enthusiasm really brought history to life. Roberta pointed out details on our tour that a normal tourist would have overlooked and not realised the significance. The tour was conducted at a relaxed pace, and she answered all questions that we asked and explained things thoroughly. It was a superb day, one which will stay with me forever, and I really can't recommend Roberta and the tour highly enough.

5.00Hugo was a brilliant guide. He knows Pompeii intimately and helped us understand the city and all its amazing mysteries. We walked at our own pace and Hugo was really engaging with our 2 children, keeping everyone interested in the wonders around us. I would highly recommend using Hugo as a guide - make sure you book a ticket that includes the Villa if the Mysteries

5.00Great experience! Ornella, our guide, really prepared and empathetic. Having come to Pompeii for the third time we could be less enthusiastic and instead Ornella was able to transmit new emotions and also show us things never seen before. Congratulations! Soon I would like to visit Herculaneum for the first time and I already know that it will be our guide... Bravo!... Marco...

We had an incredible day visiting Pompeii with fabulous weather and learning about the lives of the doomed people of Pompeii, who were clearly more advanced than any of us had thought! 5.00We had an amazing tour of Pompeii! Hugo was our private tour guide and he was incredibly knowledgeable about the history and culture of Pompeii. He was able to give us a complete personalized tour with full details of everything he showed us. The city is incredible and so surreal to stand where the people of Pompeii were living and socializing daily over 2000 years ago! It was moving to see how the city was frozen in time when mount Vesuvius erupted with little to no warning or at least the Pompeiian people were not privy to. You could see and feel the pain of their last moments. It was incredibly moving. The villa of the mysteries was really something! The life they lived was very interesting. Overall the civilization of Pompeii was not very different from modern day civilizations. They were incredibly well established and were very innovative despite not having “modern technology”. We were able to see the newly excavated area that is being uncovered by archaeologists since the pandemic shutdown. It is amazing how well things were preserved under the ash of the volcano.
