If it’s a quick introduction you want to our capital city, Port of Spain, then this tour is the one for you. The history of Trinidad began in 1498, whilst Port of Spain began in the late 1700’s. This tour will take you through time, from then to present day, journeying through the main streets and outskirts of the rich and vibrant city. Some of the historical points of interest include 19th century buildings such as Fort San Andres, Trinity Cathedral, the Red House and National Museum.
Queen's Park Savannah
It continues around the largest round-a-bout in the world, the Queen’s Park Savannah, where you will find out more about the magnificent 20th century buildings and castles which once belonged to affluent residents of Trinidad. Several of these remarkable buildings include the Gingerbread House, Queen’s Royal College, Prime Minister’s Office, Stollmeyer’s Castle and the President’s House. The tour will also excite you with information about our Carnival celebrations for which the Queen’s Park Savannah is the main stage.

4.00Port of Spain is a very old town and it's obvious it's been in the map for ages by its buildings and sacred sites. The Catholic cathedral of the Conception for one was constructed in the mid 1800's. It's located in a huge and very long plaza. The interior is typical Spanish with patio doors, ornate lighting hanging from the ceiling and alcoves. In the basement various decreased church dignitaries are entombed. A few steps away is Chinatown and the hustle and bustle of shoppers looking for treats and bargains. The business district is home to many a modern sky scraper and hi rises. At the waterfront there is an overpass which makes it easy to cross the busy highway. Guides in red shirts are very helpful and informative. The currency in Trinidad is the T&T. Inside the marina is a craft market and WiFi is free.

5.00It got off to a rocky start, but that wasn't the tour operator's fault. We asked people in the cruise terminal where to go, and they all directed us to the street out front. Waited and finally about 10 minutes after the pickup time, a local called. After another 10 minutes, we wandered back in towards the terminal, and went to the area that supposedly was cruise ship tours only, and there our contact was! Turns out they also do the ship tours. So...if you book this one, ignore people that tell you that that area is for the ship tours only! Now onto the tour. We were pleasantly surprised. We actually had a "private" tour with just me and my wife and the guide in a really nice air conditioned car. We first went around downtown and he showed us the sights and talked to us about the history. We stopped and got out for a couple photo ops. Then we went to the botanical gardens. We had a nice walk around, and our guide was explaining all about it. He even spotted a squirrel up in a tree, a rare treat (I guess). Then off to the overlook. The best part was probably our guide. He was so attentive to us. He helped both me and my wife in and out of the car safely, especially my wife who is on portable oxygen and has some mobility issues. He helped steady both of us on some of the older cobblestone pathways in the botanical gardens. I just can't say enough good about him.

5.00The tour was great! Jeffery was so patient and detailed about everything. He made sure that we saw all of the sites we wanted to See and took us to get some amazing food. He also stopped and pulled over to give us time for pictures even in the middle of traffic. He was so kind and such a genuine soul.

1.00As this site does not offer just a review of the city where we stayed for 8 days, I am tucking a look at POS here. We never took a tour as reviews here were bad, the cost is exorbitant as is everything here. We walked. At 75 we have done considerable travelling worldwide -- mostly in developing countries--but this place can surely be missed. The taxis charge in US$, per person so a short trip up the hill to the Art Gallery and botanical gardens was $50US. So if you come make sure you get a TTfs app as a tourist paid $1 for what we paid $35 (and you can tour about all you like.) The gardens are not in bloom and this place is a dust bowl so we saw no reason to go. Nor would we get any pleasure from seeing the President's house given the few folks we talked to blamed the government for economic inequality and high inflation. There is not one construction project anywhere downtown which gives an idea about the economy. Maybe because folks only pay a flat $10 property tax, stuck at WWIi levels when implemented.Nor are there any dogs, a cultural thing we were told. We queried our hotel about the museum, to walk there to find it closed for renovations since 2021, yet to be started. The "attractions" -- the Woodford Square and the national parliament buildings best features were inoperative water fountains.The walk down Independence Square South was littered , the most exciting point was the "twin towers" and flagpoles without flags. Eateries downtown were all fast food:KFC, Dairy Queen, Subway, Church's chicken and in our daily walks there was no one offered a smile, like the walking dead. Even in business places, staff hid behind steel bars. One office worker did smile as we neared, to say if she had the money for a flight, she would be gone. No fun on the streets like a steel band or such as one finds most everywhere. After all, it's all about the energy of a place. We paid to go to the Movietown mall, saw a movie and had a great Italian meal at Frederico's. We stayed at the Hyatt, shiny new and stylish but uppity because they stand out from the norm and had biz groups here and there. But bring bucks if you want to eat. As backpackers until Covid, we are travellers, not tourists, so found a market for granola/yogurt vs.the breakfast at $41US, and we had one-meal room service for 3 nights!!! We looked at the Radisson as the rooftop restaurant might be a treat:: stuck in the '60s, only Sunday brunch and the buffet looked low grade for $60US/per while the Hyatt $80US brunch was grand. To be noted is we can afford to pay, but expect value not a perpetual rip-off. We came here in transit to Barbados and the Antilles so had no interest in seeking out the swamp or beaches in the humidity for several hundred as there are prettier beaches elsewhere. We didn't feel unsafe, just sad to have made the effort and $ to come here. Won't be back, for sure.

2.00Drive around in circles for 2 hours, went to a lookout point above city and back to ship. Not much to see.

2.00The tour did visit all the sites listed, but it lasted less than two hours. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly. I suggest that you offer your taxi driver from the airport a little extra to take you to the pullout with the city view and drive through the city.

5.00Excellent - guide picked us up on time. Car was clean and comfortable .Guide was personably and knowledgeable especially about plants. Like having a personal botanist during our walk through the botanical gardens
