I attended a ceramics workshop in Fez and it was a really great experience. The welcome was warm and the explanations very clear. We discover traditional techniques step by step, in a creative and relaxed atmosphere. The craftsmen are passionate and take the time to share their know-how, which makes the activity even more interesting. An enriching experience that I recommend to all those who visit Fes!

Fun creative workshop! We came into contact with 3 different crafts and saw how professionals executed them...very impressive! We were allowed to make our own mosaic tile and paint a ceramic piece that we also got... Friendly guide who guided us and answered all our questions. Extra plus was the transport that was also fully arranged from the riad to their studio. Recommended!

Great workshop. You get picked up at a taxi at the Blue Gate. It’s very easy IF you know that taxi number (it’s in a circle at the top of the cab). They were right on time. It was super fun to paint and make mosaics. Pottery is an overview but cool. Highly recommend.

Very nice experience, with a visit to the workshop (ceramic and mosaic), as well as the possibility to try the pottery lathe, ceramic painting and mosaic. A very nice discovery that I strongly recommend, the guide and the whole team were very welcoming.

It was so interesting to see the whole process of how everything was made. And I loved that you didn’t have to choose what you wanted to do but you could try everything!

We really liked the activity. But in this comment I want to write the subsequent experience. It turns out that the objects we decorated were sent to Marraketch where we could pick them up later, since we traveled there after Fez. We pay them 100D for shipping. Unfortunately one of these arrived broken, and therefore others painted to compensate for the broken. I very much appreciate that detail. That’s why I value this place even more positively.

This was an enjoyable and educational experience at an established business that makes beautiful hand-crafted tiled furniture, fountains, and ceramic pieces. After 3 days in Fes and miles of walking and exploring, it was a great way to slow down; learn more about how the gorgeous tile work is made; and try our hand at making our own ceramic tiles, painting pottery, and even forming a piece on the wheel. After being picked up by a taxi arranged by the workshop, you tour the facility, moving from building to building, which provides helpful context of how painstaking the process is. First, you see how the individual shapes are made that go into the mosaics. These were hand-cut with a chisel and a hammer, which for the more detailed and curved pieces was simply incredible. Second, you see large-scale mosaics being made (upside down with no colors visible!). Finally, you watch tagines (both the top and the bottom) being flawlessly thrown on from a single piece of clay on a pottery wheel. Then it’s time to get your hands dirty with a tile of your own in a large workroom dedicated to the workshop. We were there with one other group of two, so had the luxury of space since the place clearly could hold more people. We chose individual ceramic pieces from bowls containing different shapes and colors to build a tile of our own design. They had a half dozen examples available to help kickstart the creative process. This to me was the most rewarding. We, too, created our pieces upside down. Once finished, they poured cement and filed down the rough edges, and the tiles were ready to take home with us. They were securely packed and taped up to avoid breaking in your luggage on the way home. We then moved on to painting pottery. You had the choice of a number of different shapes (with outlined designs pre-drawn on them) and designs — small bowls, small tagines, vases, etc. This was enjoyable though didn’t provide the instant gratification of the tiles. They will send on your finished piece(s) if you’re leaving Fes for another Moroccan city since the glazed pieces need to be fired, a process that takes about 3 business days. In our case, we were leaving from Fes airport 4 days later so arranged to pick them up on our way back. Finally, we got a quick go at the wheel, which was more for fun than actually creating a piece. Which makes sense since it’s a skill that requires time to master. It certainly gave us appreciation of how easy the craftsmen make it look. Once finished, we waited for our driver in the showroom and were given ample opportunity to browse many beautiful pieces that could be purchased on the spot and packaged up and mailed if desired. While this was clearly a money-making opportunity for the business, I didn’t feel pressured to buy anything and certainly understand why this would be a part of the experience. Of particular interest were custom pieces you could order, choosing your own color combinations and using existing finished objects for inspiration. Due to time constraints and the desire to think further about color combinations and designs, I was able to photograph the colors and a few designs so that I could order separately at a later date. These, in particular, were quite expensive so I didn’t want to rush into anything. The thorough communication both the day of the activity and after the fact to arrange pickup of our pieces was much appreciated. We received a photograph showing the taxi that would be picking us up, along with its number and the drivers name. All in all, this exceeded expectations. And while 3 hours seemed like a lot and its price seemed expensive compared to other options available, I really appreciated the way the workshop was set up. We had plenty of time to make our tiles and paint out pieces, a process that would have been a shame to rush. I did this activity with my 21-year-old daughter and both of us enjoyed it immensely. Thanks for the opportunity to try our hand at a traditional Moroccan craft. It certainly gave us an appreciation for the skill, experience, and patience required to make these beautiful pieces!

Nice experience! Short tour of the complex and three activities. Piece of mosaic, painting and pottery. The pickup and drop-off were top notch. On time and easy to find because we got the roof number of the taxi. At the end of the day they even came to bring our creations to the gate of the medina.

We came with our kids (ages 10 and 8) and everyone had a great time. We got to do a little bit of everything — mosaic, ceramics, and pottery. The location was a bit outside of the Medina so the car service to and from the workshop location is a must. Would recommend!
