Start your journey with a relaxing day in Tashkent and dinner in a vibrant garden. Venture to Rishtan the next day. Enjoy lunch at a teahouse en route and sightseeing in Kolkand. Spend a week taking hands-on lessons from Uzbekistan's primer potter. Spend two hours learning to paint pottery and two hours throwing on a wheel. All classes are held in a stunning outdoor studio with plenty of shade and fresh air. Have lunch in the studio and break for tea and treats to hear lectures about the meaning and history of ceramics in Uzbekistan. 5.00This was one of the most memorable trips I’ve ever taken. Zo and Kate have done an incredible job researching and crafting this unique itinerary that highlight’s cultural immersion and creative exploration in the lens of Uzbekistans deep history. Our time here felt meaningful and outside of the traditional touristic perspective, enriched with access to master artisans, local guides, hidden gems, traditional meals, scenic rest stops, and studio visits. I’m especially interested in exploring more of International Academic Advisors’ offerings—particularly their atlas weaving curriculum, which we got a glimpse of during this trip. As a traveling artist, this trip was exactly what I was looking for: an opportunity to keep learning outside of a classroom, surrounded by beauty, novelty, and history. While not a technical ceramic training, we threw pots on the wheel and learned specific decorating techniques from different masters. The program gave an inside look into the traditions of Uzbek pottery from harvesting the clay, throwing a pot, decorating with glaze, to firing the kiln. It is hard to pick a favorite part, but I would have to say being able to create and decorate my own ceramics pieces, which we got to take home after glazing and firing! This is a high-quality, culturally rich experience that I definitely recommend to anyone curious, creative, and eager to learn more about Central Asian culture. I’ll be going on another one of their adventures as soon as I can!
