  Let’s start with the good: Overall this was a really cool experience. We thoroughly enjoyed being able to watch the volcano erupt overnight. The camping accommodations were cozy (you get to stay in a cabin-ish dwelling and your sleeping bag is on a mattress, that is wrapped in plastic, so you’re not directly on the floor). The hike to the camping accommodations is a very manageable trek as long as you are mobile and have minimal - moderate fitness level (it takes about an hour with some minor up and downs). The views are worth it and when you make it to base camp you are greeted with a hot chocolate! Really the only big issue is that the ride up the mountain is incredibly unsafe. We fully expected off-roading conditions. What we did not expect is that they fill the trucks with 6 people and 2 people must sit in the truck bed, unbuckled… with the luggage. This is as you are riding up some serious inclines (I’m gonna guess probably about a 60% incline) with serious bumpy, gravely, conditions and trees a few feet / inches away at times. Now, our driver was fantastic and navigated it well. But multiple people in our group commented “I almost fell out” or “I had to grab this bag as it almost flew over.” CA travelers needs to consider adjusting the cost as needed and having a max of 4 people in each 4x4 truck with safety restraints available to everyone and a way to strap down the luggage. Also, potential adventurers should independently look into Fuego volcano and not have a false sense of safety because it’s a tourist excursion. If you’re gonna do the optional fuego hike understand that you are on an active volcano that has erupted viciously before and caused serious damage and death to the surrounding town. People ascend the mountain all the time so it’s not to say “Don’t do it”, but go into the trip with a full understanding of the risk you are taking. Another thing that was less than ideal is the camp site is definitely packed full. On our excursion there were spots to sit for probably about half to 60% of the group and about half have to stand around. Not a big deal though, we understand needing to maximize each trip. Also, just an anecdotal note: me and my spouse had some stomach issues after drinking out of the camel packs. It could have been something different, I definitely don’t have a way to 100% confirm it was a result of drinking the camel pack water. But if you’re extra cautious about things like that maybe consider just bringing your own bottled water.
