Maui Surfer Girls is Maui’s Top-Rated Surf School! We are Maui’s only female-owned, female-run surf school. Our lessons are co-ed, with both male and female surf instructors with years of surfing and coaching experience. We are also one of the few surf schools that offer TWO-HOUR surf lessons (other schools offer only 1.5 hour classes). Maximize your time on the water with our unique and personalized teaching style, which we’ve been perfecting for over 20 years!

Maui Surfer Girls' private lessons are one-on-one lessons, open to ages 5 and up. Book this if you would like your own dedicated instructor. Our customized surf lessons will include a 30 minute land lesson portion that includes ocean awareness, safety, and pop up technique. Followed by 90 minutes of water time. The classes include all the gear, booties, rash guard, and a sticker.

5.00My 7yr old son and I completed a 2-hour surf lesson with Kelly (my instructor) and Jedi (my son's instructor). It was the MOST fun we had in Hawaii and we did a million incredible things while there. I will hold on to that memory forever. I wish the day lasted 10 hours because 2 was not enough. Kelly was incredibly knowledgable and started from how the ocean flows and how waves work in this type of ocean to me riding in without wiping out on a few waves at the end. She is patient, kind, conversational, and one of those people you feel that you have known forever. I have never felt more safe and comfortable out in the ocean. Jedi was amazing with our son. He kept our sons attention the whole time and knew exaclty how to interact with kids and allowed for play time between teaching and made teaching fun. He took the time to stop and play in the sand, cracked a coconut open and taught our son how to drink from it and eat from it. Our son caught multiple waves with Jedi's help on the board and he was so sad when the lesson was over. I would spend the month 1,000,000 times over and I would do it every time I go. I am even going to sign up next year for the women's surf camp because I just want more.

5.00My daughter (age 7) and myself had an amazing time learning from Maggie and Dan. My daughter was so nervous before her lesson, and Maggie immediately put her at ease; she gained enough confidence to stand up on the board three times! Dan was really encouraging and helpful, and I loved his laid back approach!

5.00Wow! We had terrible weather but they were very easy to work on rescheduling with and it was really fun! I definitely recommend them for sure! Natalie was our guide and she was fun and very enthusiastic and encouraging. Love this company and would highly recommend going with them! Awesome Job! Thank you

5.00Maggie was an amazing surf instructor for my two boys, ages 10 and 7, during their first lesson. I was nervous, but she quickly eased my worries with her calm, friendly approach. She explained how waves form, taught the steps clearly, and was excellent with safety. The kids had a great time and felt confident thanks to her. Highly recommend!

5.00I had my first-ever surfing lesson with Gina from Maui Surfer Girls, and it was incredible! At age 50, I’d never even held a surfboard - but Gina’s skill and encouragement turned this into an experience I’ll never forget. She taught me everything - ocean dynamics, safety, surf etiquette, and step-by-step technique to get up on the board. She guided me with gentle instruction, did most of the hard paddling, and gave me just the right amount of support to feel safe while still challenging myself. By the end of the private lesson, I was standing and riding wave after wave. Gina’s teaching style is empowering, confidence-building and joyful. I left feeling proud and exhilarated. I can’t recommend Gina and the Maui Surfer Girls organization enough - they also offer girls surf camps and run a wonderful community outreach program - to anyone looking to try surfing!

5.00Had a private lesson with Jedi. Experience was top notch. Super informative and had a blast. Jedi was a great coach. Told me exactly what my weak spots were and I was able to catch more waves because of it. Day was great and the waves set up for long rides. Awesome location with epic views. I’ve done other lessons at other locations with other coaches. From booking to end, MSG was the best organized and run. Would definitely return!

5.00My 10 year old daughter and husband did a private lesson with Raul and Rick as their instructors and it was AWESOME. They were both encouraging with kids and really took their time. She rode multiple waves and raved about the lesson as the highlight of our trip. In addition, Maui Surfer Girls communicated clearly in advance, offered photos of the experience, and taught both of them so much. This experience and the teachers were way beyond our expectations-highly recommend them!

5.00Jedi and Natalie were awesome with our kids! My kids are neurodivergent and these two don’t even blink an eye. They made my hesitant child say it was amazing when it was over and my adventurous kid ate up every minute. Thank you for this awesome experience and giving these tired parents two hours to watch and enjoy our kids having fun!
Maui is magical and this was a trip highlight!

5.00These surfing lessons were one of the highlights of our trip to Maui! Our instructors - Anne-Marie and Natalie - were so patient with our first-time 8- and 9-year olds, and our girls were up on their boards on the first try!, and multiple times, during their time in the water. I was so impressed. We appreciated that they focused on safety and technique but then were also the biggest cheerleaders with each attempt. I'd also highly recommend Jungle Rootz - the photograther on site - as we got some of the best pictures of our trip from this experience.
