Come along on a unique tour that explores the often-overlooked Afro-Argentine history and culture, led by members of the local community. You'll discover the African roots woven into the fabric of Buenos Aires' buildings, stories, and even tango. Our tour of the historic neighborhood of San Telmo, uncovering the rich legacy of Afro-Argentines from pre-colonial times to the modern-day activism reshaping the country's relationship to race.

On this walking tour, we'll explore the old slave trading quarters and housing, as well as San Telmo Church, Dorrego Square, minimal house, and tenements. Along the way, you'll learn about the history of the Afro-Argentines, as well as the process of invisibilization of Black heritage and the activism that fights for an anti-racist Argentina.

We use the profits from our Black Heritage department to promote affordable tours for locals, sponsor free tours for kids and highlight the contributions of our Black community. Join us!

Travellers will see the smallest house in the city of Buenos Aires, where they'll learn about the path to freedom and the organization of the Afro-Argentines after the end of slavery.

We will make a stop in a traditional place in the heart of the colonial neighborhood of San Telmo. Here we'll have a drink and talk about Africa before colonization, as well as the daily lives of the people who worked in the house.

An excellent experience in hearing and seeing Argentina African experience and culture. I was enlightened as to the correlation of North America past and present to the Argentina experience. My tour guide Ms. Ekene was resourceful and insightful in passing on her knowledge. A very reflective and exposing experience.

Ekene was a delightful guide across the history of Afro-Argentine influence on Argentina. She was so clear in her storytelling, detailing what elements of African heritage permeate through this nation and its capital of Buenos Aires. It was the highlight of my trip, leaving me with so much pride and great stories to share. Highly recommend this experience, especially in the hands of Ekene.

It was an amazing tour with a very knowledgeable guide. We discovered a part of Argentinean history that is often neglected or denied. If you want to circumvent touristic clichés, this is the tour for you.
Looking for evidence of what happened to the Afro-Argentine population.

Karl was very friendly, personable and patient. Karl methodically guided my wife and I around key areas in the city and pointed out monuments and buildings with extensive histories. It was also great seeing how Karl interacted with individuals along our tour. We were able to learn a lot about Afro-Argentine history as we attempted to connect the dots regarding how the Afro-Argentine population decreased so significantly and almost completely in a 150 years and how it’s barely an afterthought. I recommend anyone with an interest in what happened to the Afro-Argentine community to take this tour.

Very good experience of having done this tour because it provided us with a lot of information about the Afro roots we have in the city of Buenos Aires. Excellent guide we got, Julia, very friendly and didactic with the children, who asked and learned many interesting and unknown things for everyone. I also recommend it because San Telmo always has surprises. The tour ends with a rich snack of cooked mate and homemade cupcakes at a bar in the area

Our tour guide Julia was wonderful!!!! She was very informative about the history of Afro-Argentinians but also Argentina and the surrounding countries. There were frequent stops along the route to look at historical sites and chat. I would highly recommend this tour!!
