Palace of Parliament
Welcome to Bucharest, Romania! Your day in Bucharest will begin with a guided walk through Piata Unirii (Unirii Square), followed by a visit to the Palace of the Parliament, the largest building in Europe, currently hosting the Romanian Parliament. Also known as the People's House, the massive building is 12 stories tall and has 8 underground levels, with the last one being an anti-atomic bunker that is linked to the main institutions of the city through 20km of catacombs. The construction is one of the most expensive buildings in the world and holds the Guinness World Record for the heaviest building in the world. Nonetheless, the building is a homage to the dictatorial regime. As the communism progressively changed the city and its architecture, the House of the People (Palatul Parlamentului), also known as the House of the Republic back in the communist period, was Nicolae Ceausescu’s expression of his dream of reinventing Bucharest.
Calea Victoriei
The guided tour will continue with discovering Bucharest’s Calea Victoriei (Victoriei Avenue), one of the city’s most important pathways, stretching over an area of almost 3 kilometers. The street was first known as Podul Mogosoaiei and gained its actual name after the Romanian War of Independence victory in 1878. The avenue is one of the oldest streets in Bucharest and reveals the far-flung beauty of a pre-communist city, from a century ago, when the town was still called the “Little Paris.”

We had 2 private, half-day tours with Vlad Chiciudean in Bucharest - the city under Ceausescu and the history of Bucharest's Jews. Vlad is smart, funny, super knowledgeable and not only prepared to answer every single question you might have but also to share personal stories that put a human face to the facts. We like experiences that are off the beaten tourist track and Vlad took us to places that I'm pretty sure few visitors have seen. The marble floors, extracted from limestone taken from the Apuseni Mountains, of a subway station, that featured prehistoric fossils. We're still talking about what we learned. If Vlad lived in our town, I'd invite him to dinner!

The price was good for 4 of us, but that was given even more value by the fact it was just the 4 of us on the tour. We were met at reception by Florin. He was very friendly and made it clear to us what the tour entailed and that flexibility was down to us, spend more time at X and maybe less at Y etc. We were then taken around Bucharest for a good 6 hours, including the fantastic Palace of Parliament, the Village Museum and many other sights of interest. The price included entrance to both these and both were very well worth seeing, the palace is truly stunning in scale. Florin had an extensive knowledge of Romanian history and was willing to answer any questions we had and to listen to our perspective of what we knew and had been presented about Romania through our lives......some very big gaps between Western eyes and the real feelings of Romanians at times. Thank you to Florin for making the whole day interesting and intriguing. Thank you to Viator for keeping up your record of ensuring the tours are of the highest quality and further enhancing the city-break experience.

This full day tour served as our introduction to Bucharest and it far exceeded my expectations. Our guide Alex was very knowledgeable, supplemented the information at the visited sites with valuable additions and insights, answered all of our questions, and arranged our day so as to minimize waits, the oppressive heat and in an order that gave us the best one-day tour of the city. The Village Museum will give you a great start if you plan to explore beyond Bucharest and the Places of Parl. are simply a must! Alex was also a real wiz at Bucharest traffic, which can save the day, and to top it off, he had an amazing recommendation for dinner. Great tour, great guide.

For me the tour was pleasant despite the heat (38°C). The tourist destinations can already be changed or adapted. Good value for money, recommended.

The tour was a disappointment for the cost we paid. The guide was not very prepared and spoke with a thread of voice, although she proved very willing to accept our requests.

Christi was excellent he was very knowledgeable about Bucharest and the history of Romania. You can tell that he has studied the history thoroughly. Christi was right on time and waiting for us in the lobby and brought water. We visited the palace and all of the important historical sites of Bucharest. It was a value considering all that w saw and learned in one day. I would highly recommenced this tour and Christi.
