Kazakhstanians compare the Charyn canyon with the Grand Canyon in the United States. And although the Charyn canyon is smaller in size to the Grand Canyon, but not inferior with its beauty and grandeur - fans of hiking and wildlife from all over the world come here.
The Charyn Canyon is located 200 kilometers away from Almaty, near the border with China, on the territory of the Charyn National Natural Park. The canyon stretches for 154 kilometers along the Charyn River and is formed from sedimentary rocks which are 12 million years old.

Charyn Canyon National Park
The Charyn Canyon stretches 154km along the Charyn River (one of the deepest rivers of the Northern Tien Shan mountains). Wind, water and sand sculpted Charyn’s red sandstone to form its shapes and shades. Some of the cliffs resemble particular figures, which is why some parts of the canyon are also called the "Valley of Castles", the Witch’s Gorge, and the Ghosts Gorge. Itinerary 09:00 – Depart Almaty (3.5 hr drive, ~200 km). 12:30 – Arrive at Charyn Canyon, walking by the Valley of Castles to the river. 13:30 – Picnic lunch by the river. 14:30 – Free time: explore, photos, optional short hikes. 16:00 – Return walking to parking point. 16:30 – Depart for Almaty. 20:00–20:30 – Arrival in Almaty.

5.00We had 4 day private tour which included a trip to charyon canyon as well as kolsai lake.. from the day we landed from uae to Almaty..ilyas our guide has been fabulous...he was punctual , courteous ,knowledgeable and was great ambassador of his country..Skyway must be proud of having an employee like him...and he must be rewarded for the same... Lastly. I will always recommend people to visit Almaty as it was an out of the world.. experience ..thanks mainly to Ilyas..

5.00Visiting Charyn Canyon with friends was an unforgettable experience! The views are absolutely breathtaking like a mini Grand Canyon in Kazakhstan. With our best tour guide, Adil, we had a great time exploring, hiking, and taking photos. He made the trip even more enjoyable with his knowledge and friendliness. Highly recommend visiting Charyn Canyon, and if you can, go with Adil he’ll make the adventure even better!
Almaty is a must see in your bucket list.Company had given us excellent hotels n experienced Driver cum guide Mr Miras.

5.00First n foremost our Driver cum guide was the best person.His name was Miras.Very courteous n .helpful.His English was fluent n he showed us all the places.Scenery n weather was good.Will recommend a visit to Almaty to all.

It was very well organized and I would like to specially mention Nazerke our tour guide who did a great job and ensured she gave personal attention to each individual in our group. She is very knowledgable on local history and was able to provide great information. Well done Nazerke.. we really enjoyed the trip

5.00Our Kazakhstan was amazing, the tour was well arranged and the tour guide Nazerke was so great and helpful, she also gave us a lot of information about the places we visited and about the country. We went to Shumbulak ski resort ,Charyn Canyon, Kolsay lake and the alma arslan gorge the tour was amazing! Our driver Sergie was also nice

5.00We booked private trip for 4 days with this company and moved in and around Almaty. Our tour guide Mr Adel is an amazing person. He took care of us so nicely and took us to all the places and explained everything very nicely. He’s a perfect young gentleman, smart guy and speaks english fluently. Our trip was amazing and we all enjoyed his company all the time. His car is neat & clean and he always reach dot on agreed time. It was a memorable experience with Mr Adel and we will recommend him to our friends and families whoever is planning to visit Almaty in future. Overall we had a 5 star experience in Almaty.
