• WHAT A NIGHTMARE.....

  This came recommended from a local villa owner but turned out to be one of the worst days we had in St. Lucia and definitely marred an otherwise amazing holiday. The boat turned up to collect us nearly an hour late whilst my wife, me and 3 sons were all left waiting on a dockside. The trip promised snacks and drinks. Most of the drink was alcohol - great for some but not for for hungry and thirsty teenagers. The entire compliment of snacks was a single tube of pringles that lasted about 5 seconds and probably one of the most expensive things to buy. Would it have been too much effort to stock the coolbox with more sodas and local fruit and less alcohol - they knew there were 3 young lads on board. As we planned a full days fishing we took no money and as food was promised, by midday the kids were ravenous and mum and dad very disappointed.. the skipper took us to Soufriere to get some cash and lunch from the single credit card we just happened to have. We were asked to pay a docking fee to get off the boat, the friends bar they took us to did not take cards and the cash point wouldnt work. so with no choice - back on the boat to try and make the most of the next 3 hours fishing whilst ignoring our hunger pains. Fishing was not good - maybe we set off too late - but at no point did the skipper radio any of his buddies (he claimed to know every captain on the island) to find out if and where any fish were being caught. Now i appreciate fishing is a gamble but the whole experience aside from this was an absolute total shambles and just felt like a money grabbing exercise with little or no care for the clients. Finally got back at 4:45 having spent a very frustrated 7 hours - Then straight to the fridge........

  Came down to St Lucia with the intent to do a days marlin fishing. From the moment I booked the trip Chris was very responsive. I’m very experienced offshore fishing so I know it’s not always catching! Got picked up from the hotel by Capt Robert and first mate Jason and Immediately felt comfortable with them. The boat is well equipped and they had everything you would need. I did a full day and we managed to have great shots at marlin. Boated a smaller one and lost a much much larger one. Also saw a free jumping marlin. Excellent day on the water and I couldn’t be happier with the crew I chose. I like to be hands on and these guys didn’t mind me getting unloved at all. On the radio on the way in we heard none of the other boats out that day had caught a thing. Just goes to show what a great crew can do. Trust me, if you want to do some big game fishing while down on the west coast of St Lucia, look no further than Hackshaws. Professional in every aspect and I promise you will have a great day on the water. If you don’t catch anything it’s because the fish gods aren’t smiling on you that day, it certainly has nothing to do do with this crew who will do whatever is possible to put you on the fish.

  The day was excellent in every way, the Guys ( Jason and Robert ) who took us were prompt and extremely good company. Caught 50Lb Wahoo a great experience. I went with Partner who does not sail well and when seas became slightly rough and we got out further out they made sure she still enjoyed experience very some good helming, and we retreated to calmer waters. The whole experience from booking to stepping off the boat was a joy - i would thoroughly recommend Hacksaw's

  This isn't about how many fish we caught ... if it was then it would be a very quick review! This is about service. Anyone who has ever got aboard a boat knows that the difference between a great, memorable day and a blot on your holiday is the people who you trust to deliver. We didn't catch fish. Well, we caught one and it wasn't very big. This was most likely because there had been some torrential rain for the few days before our trip and wasn't because of the lack of the crew trying to get us into the game. They really did try hard but it wasn't to be. The communication prior to the trip was top knotch The transport turned up on time and was spotless and friendly The boat was clean, well equipped and probably the nicest fishing boat I've ever been on. We split the day: The first part was deepwater game fishing, we had no luck but given the amount of run of from the Island it wasn't surprising. Around midday we went to the Marine Reserve at the Pitons for some lunch, some swimming and some snorkeling. The final part was some inshore bottom fishing. In all it was a very memorable day out that left us feeling that it was money well spent. The crew were friendly but not overbearing. They absolutely knew their jobs and they never stopped trying. I wouldn't hesitate to use their services again, Hackshaws were a pleasure to deal with.

  Jason the Captain and first Mate Robert were fantastic. Didn’t catch a ton of fish but the company was great. Barracuda, trigger fish, squirrel fish, grouper.

  Caught my first sail fish today, also got hooked up on a blue Marin, wahoo, and reeled in a big barracuda. Two great guys making it easy to reel in a big one

  Third time with the great folks at Hackshaw. Never a complaint or concern. I only get out to do this type of luxury fishing once or twice a year. Captain Jason and 1st mate Robert were fantastic. Jacqui as always was great managing the many changes in our itinerary due to COVID-19. Caught a very large Barracuda then things went quiet but that’s fishing. Highly recommend Hackshaw. Not a fan of the Sandals approach of cramming 6 people plus crew in a boat. Not fun in my mind. Chris and Jacqui run a great operation with great support people. Also went a day later taking my wife with me reef fishing. Landed a bunch of feisty reef fish. Had a blast. Money well spent as this is my annual treat.

  

  

• Private Charter

  My friends and I got a private charter for us 3 for when we visited St. Lucia. We arrived off of a cruise ship so getting out on the water first thing in morning was out of the question. However, we waited almost 30-45 mins to get on the boat at roughly 900AM. When we left they informed us that there was drinks and plantain chips on the boat. They informed us that they are fishermen not magicians, which I get. But after that it was probably the most expensive nap I’ve paid for. There was zero action. Nada. Nothing. Zero. They charged my credit card without asking. When I spoke with Jackie she told me that the remainder of the payment could be settle when we get to the island, I had already paid for the deposit / my half and than some but my friends were supposed to pay the remainder. On top of everything we had paid for a half a day, the crew also stated that we were the tour they had, but we didn’t even “fish / drive the boat around” for a half a day. I’d say it was roughly 3 - 3 1/2 hours MAYBE that we were on the boat. There should be a clause stating if no action happens (i.e. nothing caught ) that the costumer should only be charged cost. I wouldn’t recommend this tour personally. Nothing against the crew.

• Hooked up with Two Blue Marlin at the same time

  We went out on the boat " Blue Boy" with the best crew in St. Lucia,Captain Andre and the greatest first mate Robert. These guys are awsome we had lines in the water very early in our trip. As we fished Robert gave as tips on how to bring the" Big Ones" in. He must of had a feeling because not even a hour in we had two that's right two Blue Marlin hooked up. Robert very quickly had us set up for the fight of our lives and all the other lines out of the water.Capitan Andre some how kept the boat in front of these crazy fish that are running and jumping all over.Robert had my son darting from side to side of the boat so as not to cross lines. My son's Blue Marlin was the big one 320 + lbs Thats almost 3 times his weight.After about 45minutes the first one was at the boat and released the other took about another 15 minutes with 3 times up to the boat before the release.After high fives and fist pumping Robert quickly had lines in the water again saying " now we go for the Big Ones". This was definitely a trip of a life time for the whole family, what an experience.Thank you Captain Andre and Robert for everything.
