Nizami Ganjavi Mausoleum
The tour commences at the predetermined meeting point or hotel. The transit from Baku to Ganja covers approximately 4 hours by road. The initial destination is the Mausoleum of Nizami Ganjavi, situated in close proximity to Ganja, the poet’s birthplace. This monumental structure functions as both a burial vault and a commemorative complex, comprising a cylindrical marble edifice with a height of 20 meters, surrounded by a landscaped park. Adjacent to the mausoleum is a bronze monument dedicated to the literary contributions of Nizami Ganjavi. The poet’s name is inscribed in gold above the main entrance. The average duration of the visit at this site is estimated at 20 minutes.
Shah Abbas Mosque
The second destination is the Shah Abbas Mosque. The distance from Nizami Mausoleum to this site is approximately 15 minutes by car. Also known as the Ganja Juma Mosque, this historic mosque was constructed in the 17th century in the Arran architectural style and is situated on the left bank of the Ganja River in the historical center of Ganja. Architecturally, the Ganja Juma Mosque continues the portal-dome traditions of medieval Azerbaijani architecture, evident in its overall composition, layout, structural design and artistic details. The mosque complex, which historically formed the core of the city center, included a monumental mosque building, a freestanding northern entrance portal flanked by twin minarets and the Ganja madrasah surrounding the mosque. The red-brick structure is illuminated through beautiful stained-glass panels (Shebeke). The main mosque building is attributed to the year 1606. Visitors typically spend 15–20 minutes at this site.
