  Our Great Wall trek at Gubeikou was the highlight of our visit to Beijing. There were just two of us doing the hike and we were collected from our hotel in a comfortable car and driven to Gubeikou (about 2½ hours from our hotel in central Beijing. Our guide from Trek Club, Peter, spoke great English and was really friendly and engaging. He gave us a good historic overview of the wall and knew all the best spots for a photo. The stretch of wall at Gubeikou is unrestored and so at times you are picking your way through broken bricks and rubble, and there are quite a lot of steps to climb. Our guide was happy for us to take it at our own pace and provided us with hiking sticks. We didn’t have any issues, but I would recommend that you wear good walking shoes and be reasonably fit and mobile. After the hike we had a lovely lunch at a family-run restaurant near the wall, and then we were driven back to Beijing. Cannot recommend this experience and company enough!

  Thanks to our guide James for bringing us to a wonderful part of the Great Wall. The view from the hike was amazing! He told us interesting facts about the Great Wall and the area around, and made sure that we had a really nice day from the moment he picked us up, and until we were back in the city again.

  Being relatively far out from Beijing, the Gubeiikou section of the wall is ideal if you want to avoid crowds and see the wall in a relatively unreconstructed state. We were there on a beautiful Wednesday in May for three hours and saw exactly two other people. The section is also relatively flat, although we still climbed 74 floors according to my phone, Our guide, Peter, was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The tour was entirely private, just our group, so we could go at our own pace and take all the pictures we wanted. Lunch was a delicious addition. It comes after the hike, so bring some snacks and eat breakfast. There are cheaper options, but you will not regret spending the money.

  Tailor-made hike on the Wall, 100% tailored to our needs. We booked a private tour with James as a family (my father is 76 years old) and benefited from his knowledge and consideration. Professional, very friendly and flexible. His very good English skills are also worth mentioning. We had expected to see a lot of other tourists on the Wall because of the holidays, but we were practically alone. Highly recommended! Certainly not the last tour we did with him.

  I had an amazing solo weekend-stay with a great guide (James), who gave me the best information about Chinese history and culture in Beijing and at the Great Wall. He was able to answer all of my question and we had a lot of fun together. On our first day we visited Tian’an square, Forbidden City, Jingshan park, summer palace and walked around in the Hutong area. It was a great experience! On the second day, James showed me a more hidden and wildern part of the Great Wall with some hiking on it. It was so amazing and will ever stay in my mind. There were no other tourists or people - very enjoyable. Thank you for having me. Everything was perfectly planned - gladly again.

  Away from super tourist and explore the beauty almost alone. James was an amazing guide. He is kind and super helpful. My mom was extremely scared of the hight and cliffs, but James held her hand wherever it was needed and made her feel safe. • Amazing tour to unspoiled section of the Great Wall with excellent guide James

  We went on a private tour with James. He came to pick us up at home and we drove 2 hours outside of Beijing to an unrestored section of the Great Wall. It exceeded our expectations, it was so beautiful and unspoiled. We went on a Monday and there was literally no one else there. James is a wonderful and considerate guide who provided us with interesting facts and information. He is very friendly, has humor and is nice to talk to. He made a few video's of us hiking and shared the edited versions of those when we were home, very nice！ The hike is quite demanding, it requires a lot of climbing, but you're ON the Wall pretty much the entire time. The surroundings (trees and mountains) are also breathtaking. All in all we walked for 15 km which took about 5 hours (stops and lunch included, make sure to bring enough water and food).   I booked a private tour with James to discover the beauty of the "Wild Wall" and the experience was truly wonderful. I got picked up on time at the place I was staying in Beijing and we drove about two hours to the wall. James provided a lot of information about the history of the wall and answered all the questions I had. Once we got there we hiked about 8 km to and on the wall. James showed me some spectacular scenic spots and never got tired of me taken a million photos. Also he turned out to be a pretty good photographer himself as he took some fantastic souvenir photo of me. All in all I had a great time and cannot recommend James enough.
