• Pick Santiago Garzon if you want the best driver/guide in Ecuador!

  We hired Santiago Garzon ([email protected] or +593 99 838 3881 on WhatsApp) for our 18-day journey around Ecuador from January 11-28, 2026. We could not have been more pleased with our choice. Santiago helped me and my friend tweak our itinerary to insure that we saw the sights we wanted to see and those he thought we should not miss. I'm a surfer and was looking forward to hitting the waves, especially given the frigid conditions in the US. Santiago discouraged us from visiting the Pacific coast and Guayaquil for safety reasons (= stay away from narco activity). Although we saw many groups of policemen and security guards in various Ecuadorian cities, Santi made sure we were staying in interesting, but safe hotels/areas. We never felt threatened or unsafe during our stay in Ecuador. We were very comfortable in Santiago's clean and new Hyundai Staria. We had plenty of room to store our luggage and personal items. Santiago is an excellent driver who puts safety before speed. He is patient with our drivers and navigated the potholes, mudslides and rockslides that we encountered frequently. (Boy, was I ever glad I was not driving!) Occasionally, he would stop the van and encourage us to snap a photo. If we asked him to stop if Nature was calling or if we saw a photo op, he was totally accommodating. Santiago adjusts his activities to fit the people he is guiding. He is not afraid to push your limits on occasion to maximize your experiences. Mr. Garzon is kind and generous. He let my friend wear his running shoes during a wonderful, but daring walk through the Humanti cave with a strong river running through it. He also allowed my friend to borrow a winter coat when it was cold at high altitude when the clothing he had did not keep him sufficiently warm. We walked down and back to El Pailin del Diablo waterfall on a hot day. Totally worth it, but I was totally drenched in sweat and winded. Santiago was patient and encouraging. He knew many local restaurants which were safe to eat in. He took us to his favorite restaurant one morning in his hometown of Sangolqui for encebollado soup. Fantastic! He helped us with several bookings that I had trouble managing before we got to Ecuador. The day before an early start due to a long drive or an early morning adventure, he would give us a heads up. One morning we got up at 4:30 am to walk up a mountain to see El Gallo de la Roca (Cock of the Rock). It was a difficult, slippery wet climb in the dark, but we saw 10 of these magnificent birds and a Golden-headed Quetzal. The effort was worth it and Santiago's gentle encouragement was much appreciated. Santiago speaks excellent English. His knowledge of the history of Ecuador, its indigenous peoples, birds and wildlife was immense and he shares it in a caring manner that is not overbearing at all. He was never late and tended to show up 10-15 minutes before the allotted time we had set for morning take-offs. Hiring was a business transaction and he was very transparent about price/costs, but he is one of those people that you'd like to be friends with for life. Our trip to Ecuador was greatly enhanced by using Santiago Garzon as our driver/guide.

  I had the absolute pleasure having Daniel for a guide and cannot stress more that he is one of the best I encountered all around the World. It was just pure luck we met up, as we had used and paid for another agency first! He helped them out for 2 dayTrips and me and my friend were so impressed, that I even forfeited that and kept him as a Private guide for when my husband joined me later. From the first minute to the last, we had a enjoyable time and profited hugely from his knowledge, insider infos and constant care. He had lots to do as we had sudden roadblockages and delays to take care of. He even came up with alternatives, was flexible, helpful, enthusiastic about Flora, Fauna and loves to share his knowledge. On top he is a careful driver. We did Mindo, Cotopaxi South, Quito, Antisana, Cotopaxi North, Riobamba, Alausi with nez del Diablo, Cuenca, Guayaquil.   Danny was an excellent guide - knowledgeable, enthusiastic and fun. He loves his home City and shared some wonderful cafes and restaurants as well as the beautiful cultural centre of Quito.
