Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding
Meet your friendly English-speaking guide at your hotel lobby and you’ll head to the Chengdu Panda Breeding Center, a non-profit research and breeding facility for giant pandas and other rare animals. Spend your morning with the cutest, yet impressive, creatures in China! 3 hours inside the Panda Center, tour through the baby and adult panda areas. On a guided tour, visit different sections of the center to get a full overview of a panda’s development. Visit the baby garden, where you can see giant panda cubs born in summer, which weigh only about 3.5 ounces (100 grams) at birth and by the third month are able to walk on their own. Then stop at the sub-adult garden, where the adolescent pandas hang out, and see the adult garden, which houses the giant pandas in all their full-grown glory. Take pictures of this endangered species eating bamboo, sleeping or frolicking about. Finally, visit the red panda section to see these small adorable animals and try to spot the sleeping red pandas stretched out on branches in the red panda garden.

5.00The pandas did not disappoint! And our guide Perry was wonderful throughout. He met us at the hotel and spent the day with us during the tour where he was very knowledgeable about each of the pandas. He even accompanied us back into the city center after the tour to help us find a specialty store for a lens that we needed for my girlfriend’s camera. Thank you again Perry!!!

3.00No real plus for this activity besides the comfortable transfer. My young guide was nice and helpful but was lacking experience and couldn’t offer much added value to the tour.

5.00What an amazing adventure seeing pandas! Thanks to Leo, our tour guide, who picked us up from our hotel on time and planned the best route exploring the Giant Panda Research Base, and seeing so many cute pandas and red pandas. We had a very close-up interaction with a red panda, it was adorable!

5.00The 7:30 start was essential and William out guide was prompt and shocked us to straight to the panda centre. He astutely recommended we catch the visitors tram (30 yuan per person for all day use) so we got to the newer section of the park well before any of the crowds. We began at the Red Panda habitat and saw several running and climbing around. Over the course of the next 3 hours we worked out way back and saw multiple pandas, pairs and groups eating and playing. There were very few visitors around so it was tranquil - on a Monday morning. It was great how William answered all our questions and obviously knew the quirks and habits of the pandas - especially those at the nursery. After we had seen all points of interest William not only recommended a local restaurant, he took us to it (upstairs in a local shopping centre), asked the waitress to ensure we could be seated but also wrote down the names of dishes in Chinese. Truly he went above and beyond and as a result we had a lovely time.
Definitely a worthwhile...

5.00Definitely a worthwhile tour, my guide Perry was very knowledgeable, lovely, polite and extremely patient with me as I have COPD so it’s very slow going for me. He would also make sure I got good spots for seeing the pandas 😊 highly recommend it

5.00This is a fabulous tour! Perry is the perfect tour guide - engaging, caring and knowledgeable! I have a really sore leg at the moment and Perry really looked after me. It was great to be able to connect because Perry speaks English so well. I learned so much about the amazing pandas!
