Carrickfergus Castle
Sitting on the shores of Belfast Lough since 1177, this is the most impressive Norman Castle in Ireland and Great Britain. You will have the chance to enjoy this magnificent castle with a brief walk around the building and its adjoining harbour, then a short visit inside the completely intact Courtyard.
Andrew Jackson Centre
Tucked away behind the busy streets of the A2 highway leaving Carrickfergus is the celebrated Andrew Jackson Centre, celebrating the close links between County Antrim and the United States of America, through the story of Andrew Jackson, whose parents and two brothers left their thatched cottage homestead for the New World in the 1700s. Surprise yourself at the foundation of the UN Rangers in June 1942 in the small museum dedicated to the story of the US Army Elite Forces.

Wow Every bend, every dip or rise in the road brought out a wow as our driver can contest too. Lots of stops for photos and stopped when safe to do so for special photo requests. Well worth the money and lost all track of time with the splendour of the Antrim coastline. Lots of local history told by a local Irishman. We had great weather in February. Avoid the congestion of the busy season and go before April.

On this tour, every turn on the road was a “wow” moment. This is the Antrim coast paved backroads up close and personal. Great views along the coastal road steeped in history. Our tour guide is well verse in history and the lay of the land. It is great to have someone else take the steering wheel allowing us to take in the scenery as it unfolded. Fergal even stopped when possible when we asked to take even more pictures. From a Canadian point of view, well worth the money. February is a great time to visit Ireland.
