‘You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take’ - Michael Jordan. That quote might not be Kobe but Miko hopefully you still like it! This was one shot that myself and my university friend were delighted we did take. We met Miko doing a forbidden city tour a few days earlier and were so impressed by his knowledge, humour and fluency that we immediately asked if he did Great Wall trips. He helped us curate a perfect tour that started at midday, saw us watch sunset from the wall and also have dinner in the beautiful water town for Gubei. He was friendly, colloquially brilliant and of course helped us understand the history in a way that no book or audio tour can. 100% recommend using him and also going to the Jinshanglin part of the wall for breathtaking views with very few crowds.

We had a lovely day hiking with James! He was thorough, friendly and relaxed and we felt very comfortable and safe throughout. It was my husband’s birthday and James even got him a delicious cake to cut on a watch tower with amazing views! The lunch was homey and delicious. I really can’t say enough good things - on the whole, a once in a lifetime experience tailored to our specific needs and wishes. Highly recommend!

We did the Jiankou to Mutianyu hike today and it was absolutely incredible. Peter and James were fantastic guides – knowledgeable, friendly, and made the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. This route lets you enjoy the Great Wall in a stunning, less crowded section, which made it all the more special. The scenery was breathtaking, and finishing with an amazing meal was the perfect ending. Totally worth it!

Fantastic experience to hike along a wild portion of the Great Wall. Comfortable ride out to the wall. Peter was an amazing and attentive guide. My husband speaks Chinese so he taught us in both English and Mandarin- so my husband could work on his speaking and listening skills. Hike starts with a one mile switchback hike through a wooded (relatively steep) trail to the first guard tower. Here the views are incredible! We then hiked 1-1.5 miles along a rustic wild portion of the wall- active archeological site, trees & greenery growing up through the wall. Then we transitioned to the more tourist/improved section- this was still plenty of climbing up and down stairs. This section was still amazingly beautiful and a good chance to get a feel of what the wall would have been like when used. Then it was a long downhill walk on a stepped path to the entrance parking lot. In total, (according to my garmin) we completed about 5 miles. Peter walked at our pace- so this is definitely doable but would recommend you be in good physical shape. We learned so much about the Wall and had plenty of time to stop for photos. Water and hiking poles were provided as well as a delicious lunch. A once in a life time experience. The Great Wall is truly one of the wonders of the world. Must do! In my two weeks in China, this was my favorite activity.

This is the second time I hike the original Great Wall. This is the best Great Wall hiking experience! It exceeded my expectations and Ai highly recommend James and Peter if you want to climb the original wall. James was very responsive, answered every question swiftly. Peter, our tour guide, is the best! We hiked about 1hr to get to the original wall. We had the Great Wall all to ourselves! The view was breathtaking. It was an amazing experience walking on the walls that was built 600 years ago. Peter told us the history of the wall, showed us different structures that were used by the soldiers hundreds of years ago. A must have experience!

Amazing experience. This is best way to see the Great Wall if you are staying in Beijing. Jiankou is not crowded at all and the views are stunning. It’s not until a few hours in that you start to see other tourists as you get closer to Mutianyu. Peter was a very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly guide. It was really nice spending the day with him and he took me to a great local restaurant for lunch on the way back to Beijing. The driver was safe and reliable and the luxury, electric SUV was very comfortable. My only caution is to point out that the first 90 minutes of the hike are somewhat strenuous, and the footing is a little slippery. But as long as you are at a decent fitness level it should be fine. Don’t miss this tour!

Highly recommend this hike. Peter is a very friendly and informative guide who speaks good English and will make you feel at ease during the hike. Jiankou is breathtaking and well worth the climb. Ending in Mutianyu is nice because of the well restored towers and wallsection, but pick a day it isnt too busy otherwise the crowds might be quite overwhelming at the end of an amazing serene hike through the wild section. We worried for a second about Jiankou being too challenging after seeing some pretty steep sections on Youtube and Google but the dangerous parts of Jiankou arent a part of this tour (although they are part of the 10/10 view) and id say anyone who doesnt mind breaking a sweat in exchange for stellar views should give it a go! Pick up and drop off was done with a very nice car and calm driver and after the hike we ate amazing food at a local restaurants and enjoyed some beers. Thanks again Peter!

This trekking has been the best experience in our china trip so far and our guide Peter made it truly special! The trekking is quite challenging but the stunning views, exploring the unrestored towers and the fact of being alone most of the time makes you feel like you are really doing something unique and special! Peter has been the best guide, he gave us a lot of information on Chinese culture and customs, he suggested nice spots in Beijing and he thought us a lot about Chinese culinary culture. At the end of the trek we had lunch in a very local restaurant where Peter ordered delicious dishes for us. Overall this is highly recommended! Special thanks to Peter, hope to be able to come back and explore other unrestored sections of the wall!

James and Peter were excellent guides—both professional and friendly. Their explanation of the history of Great Wall was clear, and the pace of the hike was just right for us.
