Kyoto keeps traditional arts and beauty alive, but the busses and subways can be confusing and provide challenges for those with walking limitations. At Japan Guide Agency, we want everyone to experience Kyoto so we are happy to provide this customizable, private guided tour with a vehicle!

Join us on a tour of Kyoto to see Kiyomizu Temple as it towers over the historical Gion district, famous for its rich history of geisha. The bamboo forest of Sagano and the gardens, shrines and temples in Kyoto will provide you with a window into old Japan.

Once your reservation is made, a guide will contact you to plan your personalized tour. Choose 4 to 5 spots from ‘Tour Details’ to visit. Whether you are a history buff, love Japanese architecture, or just want to enjoy a green tea parfait, Kyoto has something for you!

Great Tour of Kyoto with Unfriendly Guide

I took away 1 star because we did not enjoy our time with our guide. If I could rate the guide alone, she would get 2 stars on knowledge only. The driver was great and they followed a prescribed itinerary by our first guide who canceled on us. I asked our new guide for recommendations before by email and she said we would discuss on the day of. Romi, our guide, arrived a few minutes before our tour, and did not want to engage me any earlier than our 12 pm start time. She never introduced herself nor asked our names. I asked if she wanted to review our itinerary and was told no. As we were leaving, I struggled with my seat belt and missed some of what she was saying. I asked for her to repeat and she told me no, at a later time. She clearly did not like having younger kids on her tour. We have a 10 year old and 14 year old and told me it’s not the boys’ tour. After this, she didn’t not speak to me for about a hour and not at the first stop, only my husband. She didn’t like tourists calling them rude and saying “it’s not Disneyland”. We went to one of the stops, the Yasaka Pagoda and she pointed to it and said, “pagoda”. I asked if she could tell us about it and she said, “we are here because you asked for it.” She took us to her favorite matcha place because she wanted something from there when we just wanted vanilla ice cream. She didn’t offer to take a picture for us until our 3rd of 5 stops. She was knowledgeable but incredibly unfriendly. We couldn’t wait for our tour to be over because of her rudeness. Saw a lot with unpleasant company.

FANTASTIC service - the driver and the guide were great. Very accommodating to what we wanted to do/see. Made adjustments to our itinerary based on our feedback. Made touring through Kyoto so much easier - highly recommend!

Our guide Michi was AMAZING! Super knowledgeable, great storyteller and ready to answer any questions. 6 hours tour was tailored to our preferences and felt like it lasted and hour only. We would definitely do it again

Lily was amazing! She took us around Kyoto but allowed us to tailor the day to our needs and interest. We had a wonderful experience with her and our driver, Sam. Lily was very patient with us and our 2 young children. She chose a delicious lunch spot that offered a traditional Japanese lunch. Overall, I would recommend this 6 hour tour. Thank you again lily!

Yoshi-san and the taxi driver did an excellent job guiding me and my cousin around Kyoto in the time allotted to us! We visited Daitokuji, Gion, Maruyama Park, and Kiyomizu-dera. All were excellent to see. My cousin, who was on his first trip to Japan, really enjoyed the experience as well! Yoshi-san did a great job explaining the background and importance of the places we visited. The pace was good given the time constraints we had for the day. Thank you, Yoshi-san, for the wonderful day!
