Lumbini Monastic Site

Lumbinī is a Buddhist pilgrimage site in the Rupandehi District of Province No. 5 in Nepal. It is the place where, according to Buddhist tradition, Queen Mahamayadevi gave birth to Siddhartha Gautama in 563 BCE. Gautama, who achieved Enlightenment some time around 528 BCE, became the Buddha and founded Buddhism. What an amazing experience! Our tour guide was incredibly friendly and knowledgable about Buddhist history. We visited the birthplace of Buddha, the ruins of the palace where he had lived as a prince, and seven other temples that had been built by countries around the world. It was amazing to see such a variety of styles of Buddhist temple. Our guide actually added an extra one not in our itinerary because it was his favorite -- and indeed it was our favorite too, very beautiful! He was very responsive, giving us time to meditate when we wished, information when we wanted information, and time with each other when we wanted that. 100% recommend, do not miss!
