During my visit to Morocco, one of the most memorable experiences was a home-cooked meal in the heart of the old Medina in Rabat— a truly warm and generational family gathering that captured the essence of Moroccan hospitality. The family welcomed us with smiles, laughter and friendliness, and the hum of conversation that carried across three generations gathered around a single table. The highlight of the meal was the Chicken Tagine, an incredible dish enriched with fruits, vegetables and spices creating a balance of savory and sweet that was delicious and a reflection of the family’s time-honored cooking techniques passed down through generations. It wasn’t just a meal — it was a window into Moroccan life, tradition, and togetherness. If you ever find yourself in Rabat, don’t miss the chance to experience a family home visit like this. It’s not just about the food (though the tagine alone is worth the journey); it’s about connection, culture, and the kind of genuine hospitality that stays with you long after you’ve left.

We had the most amazing time with Anouar and his family. They welcomed us into their home and traditions, we chatted for most of the night, made delicious Berber food and drank tea. It was fabulous gaining an insight into traditional Amazigh cooking and just wonderful spending time with them. Would highly recommend it as an activity on your Rabat journey

My husband and I just got back from two weeks in beautiful Morocco, and this experience was the highlight of our trip! We felt like a part of their family for an afternoon; it was such a special, unique experience. They showed us the process of making Moroccan tea, Amazigh bread and amlou (so good!), and seven-veggie and chicken couscous. It was comfortable sitting with them in the shade on the roof of their family home as they prepared the meals and talked with us about their culture and traditions. We even got dressed up in their traditional wedding attire! It was well worth it for the food alone — it might have been the best meal we had the whole trip! — but their welcoming hospitality and engagement made it unforgettable. One of the best experiences you could have in Morocco! Don’t miss it!

Anouar and his family were absolutely amazing! They did a terrific job with explaining the Amazigh cooking and were open to answering any questions we had about Morocco, Amazigh, and cooking techniques. Not to mention the food his mama cooked was absolutely DELICIOUS. You truly can not get a better meal and experience in Rabat. Anouar, his mama, and his father made us feel part of the family. This experience was made complete when his mama dressed me in her Amazigh wedding attire. I have never felt more welcomed and appreciative of another culture in my life. If you are planning on traveling to Rabat, I insist you join this family and learn more about Morocco and Amazigh tradition. You will not regret it!!

Taking a cooking class with Anouor and his mom (and family and friends) in the Medina of Rabat, Morocco, was one of the most memorable experiences of my trip. It was so much more than just a cooking lesson—it was a full cultural immersion. From baking bread in a traditional clay pot to sharing mint tea, every moment felt authentic and meaningful. But the highlight of the day was the couscous. Honestly, it feels unfair to call anything I’ve eaten before this “couscous”—it was that delicious. This isn’t a superficial tourist activity; it’s a chance to connect with local people in a genuine, heartfelt way. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking to go beyond the typical travel experience.

During our stay in Rabat we decided to dedicate half a day to an experience that we highly recommend if you want to immerse yourself in the Moroccan atmosphere. In the morning, before meeting, we were asked what we wanted to cook as a main course. We chose vegetarian couscous and they were very willing to accommodate our request. During the afternoon, Anouar and his family welcomed us warmly in their house and made us feel as if we were a part of their family. First, we prepared the Amlou cream using the typical Amazigh tool. Then the father taught us all the secrets to prepare the perfect Moroccan tea and the mother gave us all the tricks to make the best couscous. We were also very lucky to see how the Amazigh bread is prepared and cooked on a wood-fired oven. At the end of the dinner we were also able to try the typical Amazigh clothes. It was all delicious and it was really nice to spend an afternoon in their company drinking tea (and also coffee 😂), exchanging recipes of Italian and Moroccan cuisine and chatting a bit about the various cultural specialties. Anouar and his friend who run the service are really nice and kind, they are able to involve you and make you feel at ease. I absolutely recommend you to do this experience with them, it is worth it and the price is also very convenient.
